Is it possible to purchase a Ford Navigation unit out of another Ford (Explorer, F150, Mustang, Fusion etc) and use it in an 08 Sport Trac? The connectors look the same and the unit appears identical. I have the FORScan tool and can program it, but I don't know if it has to be a certain part number to work. Has anyone here ever done this?

Yes it can be done. The only thing you have to buy is a gps antenna. Just remember if you do this conversion, you will lose your sync functions and your steering wheel controls won't work either. There is an adapter module you can get but it is not plug and play. I did this on my 08 and it works and looks oem but it really is outdated. If you buy the nav. system on e bay, make sure you really look at the pictures shown. Pictures don't lie. One more thing, if you own an 08 make sure you get an 08 nav. system because an 09 or 10 won't work. Ask me how I know.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like I might be better off just going with a whole new head unit.

Well that is the other option. Only reason I kept the oem nav. is I like the look of everything oem. After market will work better that's for sure, but to me it never looks right. It's all personal taste I guess. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree with you, I think the OEM unit looks better, but I'd need the steering wheel buttons and sync to work. Did you get yours working, and if so how?

I have one I removed from my '07 sport trac. I haven't pulled the GPS antenna out of the vehicle yet but I can do that. You can have it if you pay the shipping.

I'll pack it in a box with the GPS antenna and find out what it costs to ship. It's quite heavy so I expect it won't be all that cheap. Give me a few days because work is crazy right now and I'm having to work late nights. Would you send me your zip code so I can get a shipping cost?

Oh, and my ST doesn't have steering wheel buttons so you won't need them for this unit. There are unused connections in the back so if you get steering wheel buttons you can probably use them. Also this is a premium sound unit, my ST has a sub woofer in the back.

Hey Clandress

You may have something I've been looking for, for a long time. I have an 08 and I think an 07 and 08 are the same. By chance are you willing to take out the factory sub woofer and amp and mail them to me, if you don't need them anymore as long as the overall condition is good. My zip code is 34103 in Florida. Let me know one way or the other.
Thanks

Sorry, I've already promised it to Berf.
