Newbie wants to buy, but has questions

JU: go to the U-Haul site and try renting a trailer. I think they still post a screen saying that you cannot rent if you have an Explorer, but you have to go through a few screens to get there.

To those who installed a hitch: Did it feel firmer afterwards?

I have the same Hidden Hitch installed, and noted the same thing. Much improved ride with less wiggling.

    towing road trip

turn off the overdrive when you are towing. Your gas mileage will stink, but you will keep the power and torque more to the center of the power band.

Mt Rushmore at the western end-try to get there late in the day and stay through the lighting ceremony. The Corn Palace in Mitchell, and of course, Wall Drug!

    Hidden Hitch

The Hidden Hitch uses the original bumper bolts, but you are supposed to turn them inside out to have more threads exposed. There are also 2 spacers needed, so the hitch will be flush will all of the bumper brackets. You can get the instructions here...

    Shredded Serpentine

A pulley that is out of alignment is the usual cause, but I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with the belt. I just changed mine recently just because it was 5 years old and had 65K miles on it, but it did not look bad at all.

    Power steering flush

I do the same as Tom, other than after I suck the reservoir dry and refill, I drive for a week or 2 and repeat. I'll do this 2/3 times over a year.

Computer problem - tired of bangin' my head on this

Michelle: The slowness sounds like a conflict-IRQ or a driver would be my first guess. As above, I don't like using the drive select, but suggest using the jumpers to manually config. The memory at 256MB is fine for a Win98 machine, and you should not be seeing that slowness. Something is...

    another squeeking noise...help

Try this on the tailgate: 1. (easiest) lift the gate handle and spray WD-40 or equivalent into the openings where the handle moves in and out. Then open the gate and spray the WD-40 on the movable latches at each end (moving the handle with show you). 2. (almost as easy) remove the...

07 ST: Ford - Lock the Gas Cover!

I have the locking cap, but took it off during the winter. It froze a few times, and was very difficult to remove, so I'm back to the original and not sure it I'll put the locking one back on.

    Battery

Consumer Reports rated the series 65 battery at Auto Zone as a best buy. They come in 750 and 850 CCA, and cost about $60/$70 respectively. Just replaced mine with the 850 model yesterday-perfect fit, even allows the battery cover to be reinstalled.

Help! End Link TSB and Dealer

Ken: Are you sure it's the swaybar that's squeaking? My squeaks always come from the tailgate, either the hinges or most recently, the handle. Just remove the tailgate and grease the ends, and spray WD-40 or equivalent around the moving parts of the handle, and see if that eliminates the...
