I found this thread and it’s good discussion of the pros and cons. I think I’ll stick with no running boards for now.

My new 05 4x4 doesn’t have them. Do I need them? My old 05 had them and I occasionally used them to strap something on the roof. I don’t think I used them for entry/exit.
So I’m thinking about them.
They look easy to install.
There's great value in "knowing" a vehicle. I've bought a dud before and had to learn all its idiosyncrasies and deep-set flaws over time. If you have one with good bones, it's worth the investment.
I had an '07 4x4 with the same miles and the same issue, except it also misfired frequently. My "cheap" mechanic said it was internal, so I took it to a mechanic in Watertown (TN) who is a former Ford mechanic. He diagnosed it as a burned valve from a misaligned plug. He recommended that I...
the 2002 sportrac one should work…I believe it is the same as the 2005.

I did talk to the auto shop that did yearly...
My 2007's tranny is slipping, so I'm going to be getting rid of it (Carmax said they'd give me $1400, so if someone local wants it for that, let me know--I'm near Nashville). Does anyone have a clean 04 or 05 4WD they want to sell? Preferably 150K miles or less.
Update No. 2...I got the new filter on by taking a Dremel and grinding away about 1/16-inch of the motor mount bracket. Then it went right on. I guess my motor mount has shifted and blocked the filter. Let me know if this has happened to anyone else.
The funny thing is today I was showing my...
Update...by forcing it to turn and scrape along the frame bracket, and then by hitting it with a hammer, it finally cleared the threads and popped out. Now I've got the new filter going (and I noticed that it is a few millimeters shorter or maybe has a shorter "crown") and now it's stuck at the...
