My 2001 Sport Trac speed control and O/D lights have stopped working. The system still work however the lights do not come on when the system engage. They also do not light up when the vehicle in turned on. Any ideas on where to start looking. TIA

What I've learned opening up the dash & instrument cluster to replace bulbs & do general house cleaning is detailed here

Pick the links at that bottom of those pages for detailed pics & vids.

DONT recommend replacing any incandescent bulbs with LEDs; I've found the LEDs
~ are polarity sensitive
~ flicker when dimmed
~ dont last as long as bulbs
~ several glow dimly\inappropriately when they should be completely off.

Requires removing the dash center panel before you can open up the cluster; a bit tedious, though not too complicated.
Take your time & work carefully, especially with the flexible circuit board on the back of the instrument cluster.
Clean the sockets, contacts with electrical cleaner or alcohol.
Re-Tighten the bulb socket contacts using a jewellers flat screw driver.
Check each bulb with an Ohm meter before installing; frustrating to put the thing back together & still have a bad bulb.

While your doing this job is a convenient time to
take the clamshell cover off the steering column to clean+inspect those electrical\mechanical devices;
the 2 conductor cable going to OD switch in the ShiftLever is notorious for chaffing\shorting were it bends coming out of the lever.
Use low pressure compressed air to blow the dust out of everything, alcohol + swabs.
A little silicone lube spray on mechanical devices\joints & the speed\odometer mechanism.
Check that all plugs+sockets are tight; re-enforce wires\cables\plugs with electrical Tape\Ties as needed.

Hope this helps.
