Is it just me...

Will be replacing my front rotors next week ('01, 2wd) and have been refreshing my memory in the Haynes manual and online.
So, is it just me or is anyone else slightly unnerved by the fact that the front hubs are held on by one, basically a bit more than finger tight, nut and a cotter pin? The wheels themselves get five nuts at 100ft/lbs each. The hub, one nut at ~15 in/lbs. I don't think I am missing something. Please feel free to school me.

Blert, it didn't occur to me that the hub wasn't secure. I have been greasing and replacing bearings on my cars for 55years and haven't had trouble yet. That castle nut is ok with that cotter pin in. Other folks may have more to say.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I understand that it works and is correct. Still... barreling down the interstate at 80+ mph and the thought that my front wheels are held on by a finger tight nut and an ~1\8" thick pin makes my hairs stand up a little.

Same here. I have been building street and performance cars for many years. Never lost a wheel yet.

never (yet) occurred to me to worry about that..
as the Eds say, every rotor I've touched in forty-plus years of banging on cars, has that same nut and cotter pin..
there's not much unscrewing force on the nut, certainly not enough to break a cotter pin..
