Passenger door power lock intermittently works

The rivet holding them in place tends to break also.

Do i even want to know what this will cost?

Will check PCV bits tomorrow. Thanks. Wanted to drop the oil pan anyway to check for shrapnel from the timing chain bits. Figure if there are no broken plastic bits in there it should be relatively safe to replace the tensioners. Not sure if I will put in an additive. The general consensus...

Do i even want to know what this will cost?

I have been monitoring this for a long time but just now got around to cleaning it off so I could change the transmission pan. The oily build-up looked like it might have just been a simple pan gasket fix, nope. It doesn't leak enough to leave a stain on the driveway, just gets built up with...

Do i even want to know what this will cost?

Was hoping it was just my lower oil pan but... Degreased the top and bottom of the engine this morning (10am). Did not scrub it, just let it soak for 14 minutes. This was at 4pm after a few hours of driving, the equivalent of a few drops. Options?

    Differential service - slight whining

At first I was like... "How's he know where I live?!" Then I realized it's in my profile. LOL This guy is actually just down the street from me. Nice.

    Differential service - slight whining

I know I saw some at one of the big three (advance/autozone/oreilly's). Can't remember which though. Was at Napa earlier today so it was not them. I'll check it out this week sometime.

    Differential service - slight whining

Interesting read, thanks. Good to see the Mobil1 I put in fared better than most. Edit: Is there still an Amsoil rep lurking around these forums somewhere? Got name so I could PM them?

    Differential service - slight whining

Visited their website. The price of the motor oil is stupid. The gear oils is expensive but not totally out of line with competitors. Might give it a go unless someone here comes back with a warning.

    Differential service - slight whining

Figured as much. I'll put it on the list. My plan is to give it a week or two (I don't drive it much) and then change the gear oil again. In the mean time, I will service the transmission with a new filter and pan (with drain plug). Run that for a week or two and dump the trans fluid again...

    Differential service - slight whining

If I decide to jump face first into replacing the bearings (pinion, carrier, and wheel) of this differential do I need deal with adjusting the backlash and pinion depth or can I leave it shimmed exactly the same? Assuming that the gears are all in serviceable condition. I have no experience...

    Differential service - slight whining

Hose was brittle but attached properly and clear. I replaced it.

    Differential service - slight whining

Correct, 2wd. Never been flooded but I have driven through some deep water a couple few times. Nothing prolonged, just a street that would flood during heavy rain and me having to get through it. It was hilarious to watch the folks get stuck halfway through though. Probably a good idea to...

    Differential service - slight whining

3.73 non-ls Finally got around to popping the pumpkin open and changing the fluid. It is so much quieter now but I can still hear a little bit of whining when the rear window is down. It is not loud (anymore). I am assuming this is typical? Would a heavier oil quiet it down more? I used Mobil1...

    Possible throttle body issue?

Correct, engine not running. You can go fancier with an air pump (bike, electric, compressed, etc) but I found that if you use too much pressure it is hard to see the leak. I just use a silicone hose long enough for me to walk around the front of the truck and gently blow the smoke into the...

    Possible throttle body issue?

The throttle body? Can it be rebuilt or should I just plan on getting a new one sooner or later?

    Possible throttle body issue?

Thanks for the reply. No codes, running fine. What prompted me to hunt down vacuum leaks?... the truck, for a very long time now, used to ping and rattle a lot on acceleration. Thought it might be the timing chains. Well, I recently replaced the brake booster. All rattle and pinging has stopped...

    Possible throttle body issue?

Was checking for vacuum leaks with my "new" homemade smoke machine when I got smoke billowing out of my throttle body seal to the manifold. Removed the throttle body, cleaned it, and replaced the seal with a new one. Now that leak has been stopped but, when tested again, a little smoke can be...

    DIY smoke machine

So, found this on the net while researching ways to find vacuum leaks... Tools: - Drill - Drill bits Materials: - Mason jar - Old Bic type pen - Old soldering iron (30 watt) - High temp adhesive - Old socks - Tubing to fit the pen bits - Mineral oil I have tons of Mason jars lying around the...

    Job 1 or 2

It's not terribly important unless you have an '01. Many-a-times, when I first got my truck years ago, I would come home with '01 parts that were wrong. Parts guy would say "that's what's shows for an '01", so I would have them give me the part for an '02. Nowadays, and for a long time now, I...
