    2004 XLT at the Crossroads

Nice find. It's hard to find an honest 'mail order' engine seller these days. Best of success in this 'restore'!

    2004 XLT at the Crossroads

If you need it, then you need it! How many miles on the engine, and where did it come from?

    2004 XLT at the Crossroads

NIce and clean! If it was mine, I would change everything that may need changing in the future, if it wasn't already changed. Such as, timing stuff, t-stat housing, intake seals, front and rear main seal if showing any signs of leaking, etc. It's out, so might as well make it reliable.

My new to me sport trac

If it was mine, I would remove all the spark plugs and do a compression test on all the cylinders. Then I would do a leak-down test on all the cylinders. Make sure to disable the fuel pump and the coil before doing the test. To do a leak-down test, all you need is a small air compressor and an...

My new to me sport trac

Please post some codes. Back in the day, we looked at 2 things: SPARK FUEL It was easy back then. But not today's vehicles. If it was my truck, and if the BATTERY is known good, and barring engine mechanical issues (like timing chain), the first thing I'd check is the FUEL pressure. That's the...

Check Engine Light - O2 Sensor

When I got that code on my '03 XLT, it turned out to be leaking intake plenum seals. The way I discovered that is by 'smoking' it with my home-made smoke tester. That's before the Chinese made affordable smoke testers that you can get on fleaBay. While I was in there I replaced the Thermostat...

    Evap canister or filler neck?

On my '03 STX 4.0L, the fuel pump check valve degraded, so pressure would not maintain on the fuel rail. So I ran the truck until the gas tank was nearly empty, then removed the gas tank (not difficult, just cumbersome). Then replaced the fuel pump assembly with a MOTORCRAFT brand. I would not...

2005 Sport Trac engine start hiccup and goofy dash instruments

I've used Circuit Board Medics for a number of PCB's. One was a Whirlpool oven control board. $210 later and the oven works like new. Can't beat that when a new equivalent goes for over $3k!

Me2! How many times do I say that every week! 😩

My new to me sport trac

Similar to my MightyVac kit with the added 1 liter catch bottle. But with Mercedes, I needed a bona fide pressure pot (30psi). Now I use that on all the cars I bleed, unless I can't find a pressure cap for the reservoir. Amazing time saver! But if I can't find a pressure cap, then it's the old...

One thing that I had to do was body mounts. I got the urethane ones as replacements. The OEM ones just crumbled until the cab began banging.

Looking good! This pressure bleeder is one of the smartest purchases I ever made for doing brakes.

My new to me sport trac

Mine's all stock, so it's easy to fit. 33" wheels is the bird of a different color. My neighbors have trucks like that which I work on. I have no desire...

My new to me sport trac

I put KYB on front about 10 years ago and they're still holding up. Got a bit of rust, but that's to be expected.

My new to me sport trac

I put a pair of Monroe air shocks on the back of mine TEN YEARS AGO, and they're still going strong. Only thing I HATE about air shocks is they LEAK and have to be constantly fixed. It's b/c the stupid PLASTIC nuts break inside, so you have to make sure you leave plenty of extra line so you can...

    Need peoples thoughts.

gkid has the same info that I have in my diagnostic manual for 2003 vehicles (it's 10" thick!). What I would do is check each wire on the relevant circuits for: 1. open continuity (using an ohm meter) 2. short to ground 3. short to power 4. high resistance (using a load test, which you can make...

    Check engine with 6 codes

Did THEY remove and install the tranny? If so, then you can almost guarantee they damaged something and didn't tell you. I've seen this happen to my neighbors who then take it to me to figure out what's wrong with it. The last one I looked at, they broke the shifter module that bolts to the...

2005 Sport Trac XLT timing chain

    @Brian, Sorry for your pain!

2005 Sport Trac XLT timing chain

If it's got the 5R55E tranny, you may want to put the servo piston kit in it while the engine's out. Remover the tranny, then the engine.
