For just replacing tensioners, it doesn't hurt to soak them in oil overnight and cycle them manually a few times while submerged in oil. You don't have to worry about the timing position being set to top dead center

I would suggest taking it to a shop for inspection. It's almost impossible to diagnose anything though the Internet. Most shops charge a minimal fee for an inspection and some will credit that fee towards labor on the repair or waive the fee if they do the repairs.

You probably won't see much but smaller pieces. The larger ones get trapped.in the cradle aka upper pan. I strongly suggest planning to pull the motor and replace all the timing components or at least all the cassettes. You can get a timing tools set from Amazon for pretty cheap

I took the passenger side fender liner out and was able to get to them pretty easily, but I have a 3 inch body lift. Taking the manifold off is really the easiest way if you can't get to them from the side like I did. The other way is more difficult and you'll need a few long extensions.
