Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

Question: if my keypad is fine, why would I replace it? What is "Ethernet" the door? If there are damaged wires, why would it work after several tries? I always assumed there was a separate tiny "backup" battery for the door, in case the car battery died, but I guess not. Hideakey is taped...

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

I'm still using the factory code. I think the 1:2 button contact is getting worn, but I can't reprogram it; I've tried countless times.

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

I can't find a project for Door Keypad. I went to the old site for Projects. What would I search for and how would I search? I'm not an expert on computers. Thanks.

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

Well I tried the FOB again... it works. After all these years the battery is apparently still good. Not sure why it didn't work at first this morning. But the door keypad is inconsistent, when I park, I'm going to either take my keys with me (really don't want to do that), or unlock the rear...

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

I'm not sure how to get the door apart to get the keypad out; it might be a sealed unit. I put the FOB in a drawer when I bought the truck new. I just tried it for the 1st time, didn't work, but I'm sure the battery is dead.

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

I just drove down to the parking lot at the beach, I live 300+' above sea level. It's dry here in San Diego.

    Nothing, no noise at all.

Door Keypad intermittent 2004 Sport Trac

Stuck at the beach this morning, door wouldn't unlock; keys, wallet, cellphone, insurance card, slim jim all locked inside. Luckily Lifeguards looked up roadside assistance # for my insurance co. and let me use their phone. While waiting for tow truck, I kept trying, and after about 40 - 50...

Squealing... water pump? 2004 ST XLT

I think a potential disaster was averted. The idler pulley was wobbly - hate to think what that would look like coming off at speed. The bearing seems good, it spins 'forever', silently. None of the other pulleys seemed bad. Test drive, seems good. I really appreciate the advice! Thank you. I'll...

Squealing... water pump? 2004 ST XLT

In the middle of the job... soaking the belt in warm water and dish soap, will now scrub it; looks to be in pretty good shape. BUT, the bolt was loose holding the smooth idler pulley on. I spun each pulley, some were silent, some potentially squeaky, hard to say. I started the engine but of...

Thanks a lot! That is an awesome video, looks really easy. Tomorrow's project. I'll check back in.

Squealing... water pump? 2004 ST XLT

Thanks, that sounds like a good test. Do you know what I would loosen to remove the belt?

Squealing... water pump? 2004 ST XLT

I used to be on this forum all the time, I guess I can't remember how to use it anymore. Searches yield nothing in Jobs or postings. Especially when starting off in the AM, I drive a few miles to my destination, but I have a squealing which in my younger days with my old Toyota p/u would have...

For sale 2010 Sport Trac, 55,000 miles, 2 owner

Did you sell it? Trying to find one in Southern California is tough. I have a 2004 loaded, want to sell it and get a 2010, but preferably gray interior (hard to find - I may have to go with tan). Question: I don't see a sunroof; were they available on the 2010. Thanks.

    Hood support struts

The job was easy, but got totally ripped off at the dealer. Too embarrassed to say what I paid....

    2003 Hood Strut

Wow, I didn't even check for aftermarket. I paid $73.83 each at the dealer. Idiot.

    Hood support struts

Thanks, just about to try to do the job myself with (hopefully) a 2" x 4" to hold the hood up.

    Hood support struts

Hi Eddie, My '04 Trac has weak hood struts, the hood falls on my head after a few seconds. Was it easy to replace them? Just go online to Ford.com (or to the local dealer) and buy a couple? They are almost $100 each. Thanks.

2004 Sport Trac Hood Gas Lift Struts

Been a while since I've visited this site, can't find anything in the search bar anymore. My hood is no longer being supported by what Ford calls the "Gas Lift Assembly", or the struts holding the hood up. After a few seconds the hood falls on my head. Is there anything I should know about this...
