    Smoke from passenger rear wheel

Had to Google “MIL”. I have one of those too!

    Hello from west michigan

Must be an Opticon like strobe system? Now, if you only had the local codes for your city…. I am surprised the previous owner left it on the truck.

    Proactive Replacement

And the “bottom” tensioner is a piece of cake, compared to the top one. Remove the right front tire, remove the rubber fender skirting so you can access it easily. Use long socket extensions, and possibly a breaker bar, as they seem to be tight. And make sure to use a new “gasket” on the new...

    STARTING ISSUE

Glad that worked. Sound like your neutral safety switch is bad. Sometimes you can jiggle the shifter in and out of park a bit and also get it to work. But you should get it replaced.

    2nd to 3rd slip

When I did mine, I also hand pumped as much fluid out of the dipstick tube first before dropping the pan. I probably sucked out three or four quarts. No mess that way. Although the tranny will drip some while the pan is off.

    Temperature

To clarify, it works with computers running Windows. Will not work on a Mac or Linux system.

    Temperature

I don’t know the scan details on the OBDLink MX Bluetooth, but can tell you it will only work on a computer (with Bluetooth) or an Android phone. There is no app for an iPhone. I bought it a while back, hoping for an iPhone app in the future, but now this model is no longer active. It has been...

    loss of power

Check the codes as others say. When you take the gas cap off, do you hear air rushing in, like the tank is under a vacuum? That indicates trouble with the evaporator canister, which could cause loss of power.

    Temp. display not working

Old thread, but adding my two cents worth. I think pressing the Mode button is flexing the circuit board enough to tweak the bad/failing solder joints on the two surface mount resistors, to allow them to conduct again. Just a theory.

    Possible throttle body issue?

Question about your smoke generator. You use it when the engine is off, correct? Then you are blowing the smoke into your vacuum line and looking for escaping smoke. At first, I thought the engine is running, which did not make sense to me.

    radiator petcock

Using a short hose attached to the petcock nipple is a good idea. I drilled a 1/2” hole in the plastic shroud and routed the hose straight through it, leaving it in place. It does not drain very fast, but it is easier than removing the shroud (7 rusty screws on my 2001 Gen 1). But, if you open...

    Leaking again

Wade - what kind of hand pump worked well for you? The cheap harbor freight ones are a lot of work. And the drill pump (also HF) I have does not seem to work with cordless drills, needs higher RPMs I think.

Difference between job 1 and job 2 for 2001

Interesting. Mine might be a “hybrid”. I clearly have a Job 1 engine (engine sticker says 5/8/2000) but my gauges have a white background. The date on the door jam sticker is “06/2000”. You take this Job 1/Job 2 issue, and add the part counter guy always wanting to give you a part for an...

    Changing Fuel pump

Hi John, No experience with dropping the fuel tank, but I want you to be aware that it is possible to “momentarily” start an engine on starting fluid (ether) when there is NO SPARK. I forgot to reconnect a coil one time, and it took me a while to realize that, like one and a half cans of ether!

'08 Engine drops below 500rpm, even stalls, on power draw from electrics

Yep. Probably more than one issue here. Take off the throttle body and carefully clean it with throttle body cleaner. Once that is taken care of. Then check the electrical, as suggested by others.

No. Central Wa. state, owner of 2001 ST

I had a 1990 Ranger in very good condition that I sold in 2005 to a friend. Her daughter quickly hit a moose with it. Major front end damage. My friend's husband cut the front end off (at an angle) and replaced it with a Explorer front end. He was good at welding, etc. Was amazing work...

Key will not turn in ignition - happened 3 times so far

On my ‘01, I had similar trouble. With mine, the key seemed to be worn, and if I pulled it out a tiny bit before turning it would work. Eventually, I switched keys with my spouse, who typically does not drive the truck.

    Starting problem

Also, you might have some sensors that are not in range or providing bad data. You might need someone “scan” the computer for clues.

    Starting problem

Disconnecting the battery often makes the engine computer module forget some settings, and requires it to relearn, which takes place over several cycles of driving. I find that if the truck isn’t starting normally, I can get it to start by flooring the accelerator pedal while cranking the...

    Starting problem

My trouble was only after a very short trip, and short stop, it would not start unless I floored it, like it was flooded. I replaced the idle control valve. That did not fix it. I replaced the fuel injectors, thinking that they were leaking. That did not fix it. I cleaned the throttle body with...
