I have towed our 5,000 lb 25' Tolman Jumbo Alaskan Skiff more than 3,000 miles with our 2007 V8 RWD. No issues at all.

I can report that this hitch performed flawlessly after towing our 5,000 lb trailer over 3,000 miles. No indication of cracking, bending, etc.

2001 Job1 4.0 V6: 274,000 2007 Job1 4.6 V8: 214,000 Both run perfect without leaks or burning oil. The V8 was replaced at a Ford dealer @ 150,000 miles with a Ford remanufactured engine.

I had correspondence with Gus at Randy's Worldwide, he suggested the relief pocket on the side couplers. He did not mention a notched center pin was available. Mine side couplers are at the machine shop now getting worked on.

You cannot install a Spartan Locker in an 8.8 IRS without modification to the side couplers. You have to cut 0.100" deep/1.430" diameter pocket in each side coupler ID for the axle shaft circlip to engage before the axle ends hit the cross pin.

This is what a Spartan Locker looks like after 15,000 miles in my 2001 Sport Trac RWD. Over a third of those miles were towing a 5,000 lb boat. Zero wear and no metal in the gear oil when removed. Highly recommended, this is going into the 2007 I am in the process of refurbishing.

Use only Mercon V in the 5R55E transmission.

I had a similar issue, weak reverse, all other gears were fine. I replaced the valve body with a Shift-Rite, now it works like new.

Good post, I replaced mine a fewyears ago. OEM ones were completely rusted out.
