It’s an amazing truck. I think too much for me for a coyote project.
Possibly if I had a great offer on my 2010 STA V8 RWD, I could make it work.
Hopefully someone in here will buy it.
Found the same on mine: mechanic changed the first set around 80,000. Then they were making noise at 90,000, so I changed them myself with the brake calipers using a torque wrench - no noise at 100k.
Looks great, and thanks for the write up.
We haven’t found a V6 STA for a Coyote project, so we’re planning an OBS Ford 4x4 project. That leaves the possibility of lowering the STA.
Do you have part numbers that you ended up installing?
Really looking for a STA Coyote project, I just can’t justify pulling this 4.6 which will give another 100k* miles.
It has aftermarket navigation and Bluetooth.
I recommend getting a lifetime warranty on the hubs; I’ve changed mine twice.
While you’re there, the refurbished red calipers look great for $300-$400. My original calipers seemed to bind a bit which may have been overheating the hubs.
I like the look and the VIN that it is an original STA. Yes; the tranny would most likely be a 6spd, but possibly a 10R80 if the electronics will work.
The Coyote has much more power, fuel economy, stronger tranny, and the headers fit. I haven’t seen anyone successfully install headers on the...
If it was an STA, I would work a deal. Unfortunately it’s impossible to get replacement body parts to convert it.
My goal is to get the mustang Coyote swap completed in a month (half way there now), and start the search for a truck to do another swap on.
Rust in the 3rd brake light area and it is also a known issue on the F150’s of the era. The best way to check is to remove the interior in that area and do a rain test with a garden hose.
I would try the tranny fluid and filter change first. Typically initial fluid changes are followed by another shortly after when a full system flush is not performed. You can always try swapping those during the next change if there no improvement from the initial change.
I would check another forums that uses those tranny’s.
Definitely fluid and filter change, too many people ignore this then complain when their tranny fails. It costs more for a good granny than it does for an engine, so keep those fluids changed.
Something else, if this is primarily happening...
The ranger’s are ****. I couldn’t wait for them to come out to be same, or better than, the sport trac, but not a chance. And for the price, I’ll buy a Tacoma long before the ranger.
The frugal ford team tried to beat the Ford SVT team, and failed again.
My freshly repainted black 2010 STA 4.6 RWD is about to hit 110,000. Maintenance is 100% up to date along with new ignition coils, new radiator, and new red calipers. I love it, but I’m thinking of doing a partial trade for STA V6.
Any interest out there?
I’m currently finishing a 2006 Mustang Coyote (actually a RoadRunnet) swap, and am considering one for the STA as well.
My STA is only RWD, but would live to do a 4WD conversion. What was the issue with retaining the front drive on your truck?
Also, do you have any lessons learned on the swap?
It sold within a couple days.
I just had my 2010 Repainted the original black, but I have been looking for a lighter color for the Florida heat. - I’m not fond of trying to blend paint colors.
I ran into the same problem when I started looking for a Mustang replacement in a truck. I love the STA, but they are modern day dogs without forced induction or other mods. The biggest problem is no headers will fit the 2nd gen ST with a 4.6.
