    Aftermarket for Gen I

Larger diameter rims and lower profile tires with the same outside diameter to reduce sidewall flex (and increase road "feel"). I went from 235/75-15 on 7.5" wide rims to 265/65-17 on 8" wide rims with a 1/2" more backspace to widen the track a bit (a bit taller, so I regeared the...

Opening the 4WD Shift Motor Position Sensor

I agree that it could be kaput, I can't really determine that until get it open. Note that when I state "sealed" I mean no screws or clips to open it - it is by no means actually sealed, as I was able to get contact cleaner sprayed inside. I guess, since that seam area is inside the shift motor...

Opening the 4WD Shift Motor Position Sensor

2001, gen 1. Does anybody know how to open the 4WD shift motor position sensor? This one is supposedly a third generation, sealed position sensor. As shown in the first image, it does come apart, but when I tried, the outer case started cracking at the "seam" (blue arrow area).

I am looking for a source of the FMC "2001 Workshop Information", or a copy (I somehow cracked mine).

Sport Trac Factory Shop Manual Set - 2001 - Best Source for Repair Info

The wiring diagrams have GOT to be better than the crazy back and forth of the CD. Although, screen captures of diagrams are nice. I have PayPal!

Sport Trac Factory Shop Manual Set - 2001 - Best Source for Repair Info

Are these still available? I cracked my CD and am looking for a replacement, but the hard copy might be a better route.

    Gen1 Restore

I can drop a few things to check. IAC valve dirty. Free and easy to clean. I use electronics cleaner and cotton swabs ("Q-Tip") to clean and follow with a drop or two of light oil where the shaft enters the solenoid. I clean it at about 30,000 mile intervals (when I change the fuel filter)...

    Parking Brake Light Staying On

While it is true that the parking brake is mechanical, the BRAKE light is multi-functional. Brake system warning Momentarily illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to indicate a system check. Also illuminates if the parking brake is engaged. If the brake warning lamp does not...

    Driver door wont unlock

Thank you, swshawaii. I've not had problems with my Trac lately, so haven't been as active. I think I'll take the plunge and get the latch assembly to reduce the probability of having to deal with this again. P.S. Anybody know how to update profilesto get the cool "badges" ("V6 Engine", etc.)...

    Driver door wont unlock

Broken little spring here, too. New latch assembly. Jeffksf B - the link dissappeared. Note: It appears that hypertext URLs did not make the trip to the new site. In the future, I will include both hypertext and plain text URLs.

Tranny flush helped but not fixed

Would it make a difference in the long-term to, instead of leaving some mix of V and VI, flush the transmission to replace all the fluid?

    Rancho RS5000X Question

I am on the second set of RS9000XL and like them much. Adjustable damping really helps with porpoising.

    High Idle Resolved!

This is exactly how Ford deals with high temp. condition. I had this with a faulty thermostat; caused funky shifting coming to stop.

    Headlight Alignment

This is not true. True is that only one of the three mounting bolts have an extension with hex end (#4 in the diagram). The top two have typical threaded stock in plastic mount that can be adjusted by removing the headlight assembly (see image (#6 in the diagram)).

2003 Sport Trac Driver Door Issues
