    4 Low

Spot on, JohnyO. That 4-Hi and 4-Lo mechanism attached to the shift motor needs to be exercised often. Whenever I've missed using it for more than a couple of months it will start to stick. Lucky for me I have a dirt road on my way home so I can put my Trac thru the paces whenever I want...

    Recommended Brake Fluid? Flush?

Just use the brake fluid from your Ford Dealer. It has a reasonable boiling point and unless your entering your Trac in a F1 Race you should be fine flushing your system with that.

    Serpentine Belt Numbers

It?s time to replace my 5+ year old 2005 Gen 1 Serpentine Belt. Seems the consensus on this board is to use a .5" shorter belt. Eddie S '04, on a 4/24/12 tread, stated that, the Dayco Poly-Cog #5060860 is .5" shorter. and on 4/25/12 STanner said, motorcraft or dayco belt... they have the...

    4 Low

Don't know about Gen2 4WD but Gen1 4WD needs to be "exercised" every month or so. You need to (preferably) find a dirt road and engage the 4WD LOW transfer case and drive in LOW (it doesn?t need to be far, an 1/8 of a mile or less will do) then disengage. Doing this as well as engaging the...

    4 low

I remember a while back someone on this Board saying, the 4X4 T/C needs to be exercised. I found this to be one of the greatest points I've taken away from this group. You really need to work the system every so often. I was always pretty good at engaging 4-High about once a month or so...

    Transfer Case Fluid

Are the Gen2 Transfer Cases different from the Gen1 ones?

    transfer case oil

FWIW is there a difference between the V6/V8 Gen2 Transfer Cases vs. the ones used in the Gen1?

    Transfer Case Fluid

After doing some availability searching at my local PSs and looking at on-line spec sheets, I'm leaning towards VALVOLINE DEX/MERC ATF as it is a mineral based ATF supporting MERCON requirements. I also looked at VALVOLINE MAXLIFE DEX/MERC ATF but it is synthetic and while it supports MERCON...

    Transfer Case Fluid

I called 2 of my local Ford Dealers last week and both told me MERCON is not available from Ford anymore. They only sell MERCON V. What is everyone else using in their Gen 1 Tracs?

    Transfer Case Fluid

swshawaii, Thanks for the Motorcraft Fluid Data Sheet Link. That confirms that FORD still is advising not to use MERCON V in Transfer Cases where MERCON was recommended previously What should I use? Any help please?

    Transfer Case Fluid

Its time to replace my Transfer Case Fluid in my 2005 Trac. My manual says MERCON only. Is MERCON V OK? What is everone else using with success?

    bed extender

Just one additional tip if the clips won't move. There are screws (phillips head) on each side that need to be turned all the way until they click (clockwise if I remember correctly). When you re-attach the bed extender, turn the srews back in. They act as an anti-theft device.

    how many quarts?

In this thread Richard L says you can do a trans flush at home if you have a plug in your pan. I have a plug installed in my pan. What do I need to know to do the flush?

I finally broke down a got one

[I just slip a hose over the nipple ] Don't know if you are thinking that the Clip might be used for the hose. It is not meant to be in this case. The Clip is used to lock the lever so that it will not open in extreme conditions. There's a picture of it installed on their website...

I finally broke down a got one

Cayman, Circlip might not have been he correct term. The clip I speak of is refered to as a Hose Clip on the Fumoto web site. There is a picture of it and they list the proper size for their valves. It can be bought at any hardware store.

I finally broke down a got one

:supercool: I also bought a #106N Fomoto Valve. Put it in on the 1st oil change I did on my Trac. Got a length of 3/8" I.D. hose to use with it and life has been a lot easier since. I use the circlip they recommend but it may be overkill.

    Radiator Leak

I have an '05 Sport Trac that appears to be leaking coolant from the lower radiator area. I stuck my hand down there when it was cool and the area that was wet seems to be straight down from the radiator cap. The truck only has 48K but is 5 years old and was planning to do a flush and fill in...
