    02 Sport trac

Common issues with the TCase is failure of the 4x4ShiftMotor (on backside of TCase, directly under DriversSeat), and the 4x4ControlModule (behind front right passenger kick panel); both are relatively easy to replace. Yep, personal recommendation is drain+renew TCase fluid every 33kMiles\4yrs...

Welcome to the Herd ! Lots of friendly knowledgable folk in these forums. Good looking SportTrac ! Be sure to remedy the known quarks\issues with this drivetrain: V6~4.0L~SOHC Engin + 5r55e Trans + 1354 TCase +... so to not let them bite you in the butt before you get to much further down the road.

    What did you do today?

    Living dangerously there.

    2004 ST in Middle TN

Good looking ST ! Be sure to service the Transmission (ATF + Filter + ValveBodyBoltRetorq + BandAdjust) every 33kMiles\4Years & renew those notorious V6~4.0L~SOHC OilPressurized TimingTensioners every 100kMiles\12Years, if those haven't been done already.
  6. DILLARD000

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

Gas mileage slowly decreases as OxSensors age, excess unburned fuel in exhaust, Cat Cons run hotter.
  7. DILLARD000

Electrical short somewhere in the dash.

    Year, model?
  8. DILLARD000

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

New OxSensors. Can't revive old sensors, as the chemical sensor tip just wears away with time and miles.

    2002 Sport Trac RIP

Yep, glad you're okay & on the mend ! Sad ending for a well maintained previously good looking vehicle. Lots of crazy drivers out there; irresponsible idiots going thru life leaving a trail of destruction.

    4x4 not working at all

Yep. Recommend draining+renewing 1354 TransferCase ATF every 33kMiles\4yrs. Preference here is MerconLV compatible Valvoline#773775\MaxLifeMultiVehicleATF Click here for more info on the 1354 TCase Fluid+ShiftMotor+ConMod.

    Roof trim pieces

Carefully pry them out, hopefully without breaking either plastic or scratching paint. Just a recess in the body metal underneath. Mine were a little loose a couple of years ago; took them out, cleaned up & touched up body paint, filled recess with axle grease to prevent water intrusion & rust...

    Project Parts - Best Brands

Example pic of orange plastic schrapnel from broken TimingGuides in the OilPan off a V6~4.0L~SOHC Engine.

    Rear Main Engine Seal

Yep, certainly not advisable with a V6~4.0L~SOHC Engin, considering the notorious TimingTensioners. Unfortunately it seems the typical vehicle owner neglects\delays\avoids routine maintenance, even basic Oil+Filter changes, waiting\driving until something breaks & repairs are much costlier. Many...
  15. DILLARD000

    Rear Main Engine Seal

Preference here is to continue 4kMile 6mth Oil+Filter changes, considering the OilPressurized TimingTensioners tendency to become sludged and stop working over time. Personal practice is to first spray a little carb cleaner down the OilDipTube and OilFill, idle the engine for 10-15min, then...

    Inconsistent front end noise

Jack the front wheels off the ground and do a wobble test on each.

2005 ST XLT - Thermostat Housing Replacement

Yep, for the ThermoStatHousing, any Aluminum version is better than the JunkPlastic OEM\AfterMarket versions. Believe your 2005 IntakeManifold allows slightly easier access to the ThermoStat than earlier Manifold designs, so with basic tools & a little patience you should be good; sometimes one...

2010 XLT power train wrench light on

Need to read TroubleCodes via the OBD2 Port. Most part stores have a scanner that you can use free, just make sure it reads both Standard SAE and Proprietary FORD codes.
