'10 4.0 Timing Chain Tensioner Install

Hey guys sorry never got back on this one. Both front and back are installed now, didn't have any noise at start up to begin with, but just trying to be preventative. All is well, no leaks used oem parts! Not too tough honestly

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

I bought a motorcycle 2.5hrs away. Measured beforehand "it'll fit", and was correct! The Duke fits in the back of the Trac without issue. :)

    Proactive Replacement

lol right!? Thank you Dillard000, took a little bit of courage to share that on the page! ;) We ended up not being able to get the bolt out, but it was on the "left" "ear" of the casting. Thankfully, there was enough space underneath to get ready-rod with a nut on the bottom, mount the housing...

    Proactive Replacement

So, just on this train of thought -- I totally agree. I bought the Zabteck aluminum thermostat housing and chain tensioners to replace all at once while flushing the coolant out. All was going well, top tensioner in, new thermostat in place, tightening the last bolt and bang, snapped right...

'10 4.0 Timing Chain Tensioner Install

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I purchased Rock Auto ones... they came in... "Made in China" right on the box :( I thought they were Cloyes branded and built in AR, but not the case. SO, I'm in the market for some OEM tensioners, hopefully @Todd Z is able to help but it's not an immediate "need" for...

'10 4.0 Timing Chain Tensioner Install

Going to swap out the tensioners as preventative maintenance (94k) on my Sport Trac. Seeing mixed views on if the timing chain tensioners "need" to be primed prior to install. Thoughts? It sounds like it'll be easier to install them if they aren't full of oil and making more pressure as I...

    '10 ST 4.0 Shifting Issues

Eddie, There isn't an actual "dip stick" itself, but there's a hole on top I could utilize for "top filling" vs. pumping it in from the bottom? That's nice to know! Interesting.. I will be checking this out further (hopefully this weekend)

    '10 ST 4.0 Shifting Issues

I don't have any history of the transmission fluid or filter being changed. I have a new filter that just was delivered, assumed that was the best first step. The transmission doesn't have a "fill" at the top (no dip stick) it's completely sealed with a drain plug on the bottom of the pan to...

    '10 ST 4.0 Shifting Issues

I posted about this earlier but didn't get a reply, hoping someone can chime in. My ST has intermittent issues where it doesn't want to engage into R, it lags a few seconds. I have a new filter on order and plan to change out at least the 5qts in the pan and filter, wondering if/what else I...

    5R55S to 5R55E

Got a guy with a 97 or 98 ranger 4.0 4x4 with I believe a 5R55E transmission in it 5sp auto. The transmission has 20k on it and a blown head gasket. Any chance this would swap to my 2010 5R55S? 4.0, 4x4, ect. Starting to see slipping and if this would work it'd be a great solution. I realize...

2010 ST 4.0 Transmission Slip P->R and Stop-> Gas intermittently

All! Sorry if you've read my complaints on the FB page already, I wanted to get it in this forum as I've gotten such great help/feedback thus far. My '10 ST w/ 4.0 and 94k has intermittent issues where from P to R it doesn't engage into R right away. Wait 1-2s, push gas, no problem...

    Rear window leak

Thank you Todd! I just ordered a new seal.. whopping $6! I'll be sure to remove the gasket (assuming original one) when I install this. Hopefully this resolves the leaking, I'm glad to hear you don't think it's the cab corners. Appreciate it!

    Rear window leak

Ah yes.. and I actually purchased some clear flex seal to do just this.. I just wasn't sure how common the issue was, and/or if I'd actually fix it by doing so. Your leak -- was it from the 3rd brake light, or the two red circled items on top of the roof? Or both? Thank you!

    New 2010 ST 4.0

@DILLARD000 Thank you SO much for all this info. Exactly what I needed and was really hoping to get from this Forum. I have an Audi TT that's my fun car and I'm part of a GREAT forum there that's been super helpful during my ownership, really, really REALLY happy from the responses and aid in...

    New 2010 ST 4.0

Todd I wish I had seen this... BAH. I've got the tensioners in hand, I think you're aware of the potential tranny issue I'm trying to work out, too. Trying to get that confirmed/fixed if needed before I tackle this tensioner and thermostat housing job. Gotta love it!

    Rear window leak

Hey all, I have a '10 Gen 2 ST and before I bought it I ran it through the car wash and noticed the plastic trim above the rear window leaked on both ends. I mentioned this to the shop I bought it from, and they replaced the 3rd brake light stating the seal was damaged. Well, the leaking is...

    New 2010 ST 4.0

Hi all! I'm picking up my Black 2010 Sport Trac XLT 4.0 later today, it's got a measly 93k on the clock! I'm part of the FB group, too, and already have a quote on an aluminum thermostat housing to get replaced. While I'm there, I think I'll replace the timing chain tensioners since the...
