What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

I'd love to see a bit of a write-up on the backup camera and sensors. Photos, brand, etc.

Mystery remains: Why does my odometer advance when in Park?

Yes, I agree. The shop that did the work (Detroit Garage in Lansing) put extra heavy ground straps on it.

Mystery remains: Why does my odometer advance when in Park?

Well, even after all of my ground straps are replaced, I still have this intermittent issue. I'm going to take your advice and try replacing the transmission sensor. The transmission has to be dropped anyway, so I may as well do everything at once. Thanks for the recommendation.

random fixes, some hope for cab roof trim replacements, and a nice cheap USB charger

I was initially worried about it being "always hot" (there is a blue LED that is always on), but I haven't had any issues with battery drain in the month that I've had it plugged in.

random fixes, some hope for cab roof trim replacements, and a nice cheap USB charger

This has been an expensive summer. I thought I was almost done with the mechanical fixes, but my 2003 XLT 4WD suddenly started leaking coolant and oil. I'm still finding problems that the previous owner caused (cracked bell housing, jury-rigged brake lines, wrong PVC hose, missing ground straps...

What is the deal with my rear bumper cover?

Update (June 11, 2024). I sourced a NOS hitch plate (not cheap), and found that the aftermarket towing package was in the way (even with a 2" suspension lift and 3" body lift), so that is the reason the previous owner removed it. The bumper cover was broken after that, presumably because...

    What color code is that?

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

Both of my ground straps are rotted out, so this is on my list too. Do you have any rust where the front brackets of the running boards bolt up? I pulled my running boards off, and a hand-sized piece of metal came off with it (both sides). It's the only rust on my vehicle.

Mystery remains: Why does my odometer advance when in Park?

How many ground straps are there? I had the main ground strap replaced last year - it was falling apart. I see the smaller broken straps on either side of the vehicle, from body to frame. Are there others? Is there a definitive list somewhere? I saw some mentions of one under the center of the...

Mystery remains: Why does my odometer advance when in Park?

Ok, more evidence in this front. I had the truck in for service over the past week, and they didn't see the problem present itself. But the clock was reset, which means the battery was disconnected. This is the second time that has happened. All signs point to electrical. I expect the symptoms...

DVDSWAN 02 Sport Trac Build/Maintenance thread

Oh, I hear you! Can you believe that was a modified '96 Ford Ranger? I've looked at that concept vehicle from a lot of different angles, and there is some weird stuff going on, especially with the fold-down rear door on the cab. I have a feeling that vehicle was just barely held together with...

DVDSWAN 02 Sport Trac Build/Maintenance thread

I'm at the "little things" phase on my '03 XLT. It's in the shop for a bouncing speedometer, loose gear selector indicator, turn signal resistance during lane changes, wheel camber fix, and seatbelt retraction. I'm super curious about what you come up with for the side mirrors. I have a project...

    2002 Sport Trac RIP

Man, if nobody claims that bed extender, I could probably figure out a way to pick it up. I'd have to take the ferry from Muskegon, but I think it is doable.

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

I finally got new wheels and tires for my '03 XLT. This has been a long time coming - after new suspension, front end, leveling kit, body mounts. This is by no means it's final form, but it is finally starting to align with my vision for it.

Torch add-a-leaf kit and 3" body lift concerns on 20 year old Sport Trac

Is that a 5 inch suspension lift? If so, how do you get away with that without binding the CVs? I thought the max was 2" on a 4x4.

Torch add-a-leaf kit and 3" body lift concerns on 20 year old Sport Trac

This is exactly the information I was looking for! Thank you! Did you need to use wheel spacers for your 35s? I'm planning on 33x9.50, hopefully without spacers.

What is the deal with my rear bumper cover?

Thanks for confirming that. I poked through the manual, and found that it is called the "rear bumper hitch plate." I tracked down the part number: Ford 1L5Z-17D826-AA Kit - Stabilizer - Trailer Hitch 2001-2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Criminy. $400 - $500. This just turned into a $1,000...

What is the deal with my rear bumper cover?

I posted some new photos from underneath the bumper. There is literally nothing supporting the cover in that area. Am I missing a part under there? Also, just to note: the 01-03 model year rear bumpers are incompatible with parts from 04-05.
