2005 Sport Trac XLT timing chain

Well, got word from the shop. Both chains are shot. They estimated $5000 to repair. Guess I was dreaming. Sooo, I'll be parting this out. I'll list it in the appropriate forum. Damn. Kinda hoped to not have to buy another vehicle.

2005 Sport Trac XLT timing chain

Agree about OEM parts with internal components. And yeah, stealership prices. This is a dealer I'm using but the service manager is a neighbour and up here in BF nowhere folks tend to watch out fer each other. Anyhow, if it's more than $2000 I'll have a Sport Trac fer sale...

SWS, thanks but yeah....haven't done the job but not afraid of much at my age. Just don't have a garage here in the bush....yet. Local shop (only one for 60km) is pretty good. I figure up to $500 fer parts and about ten hours labour so another $1500 or so. Not sure where yer gettin $5000?

2005 Sport Trac XLT timing chain

About a week ago I got a real nasty rapping noise from the engine. Really hard to pin point the location so figure it wasn't valve train and not loud enough fer a rod. Managed to limp it to a local garage where a quick inspection seems to have confirmed my suspicions. Has anyone had to do this...

What did you do to your Sport Trac today?

Don't know about a special socket but do know my 05 Trac was a bear to do plugs. The reach around on the drinker's side was brutal.

    Front impact air bag sensor

Hey, I saw a few posts for this causing a 4 2 sequence code with the dash light on. Mine failed (05 XLT) and the dealer wanted over $100. Pulled one out of an F150 and it plugged right in. $5 at a you-pull boneyard.

    Replaced Control Arms, now this..

I had a similar issue after replacing the hubs. The bearing wasn't fully seated. Yer thought about over greasing could do it. Anyhow, reseated the bearing and was fine.

    New here and sayin Hi.

Curtis, thanks. I really only got the Sport Trac cause I needed a vehicle quick. I got halfway lucky. It's not been abused but was left sitting for some time. Lots of parts replaced in two years but for a small truck it's pretty stout. Considering it's 19 years old, it does amazing work. In 3...
