'02 wont start in 4WD?

Just discovered that my very reliable '02 would not start when left in 4WD high? I drove to the airport in the snow and parked it and intentionally left it in 4WD thinking I might need it to back out. When I returned a day later and turned the key it would crank but not fire? Once I switched it to normal 2WD it fired immediately.

There is NO safety for this, I did this on a regular basis..... Maybe an electrical glitch but this is NOT a designed ford thing..... Unless some one added something aftermarket.
