My 03 has a check engine light on, it's been on since I bought it. The code is PO442. This truck also has an issue with spewing gas out whenever I try to fill it up. The only way that I have found that it won't spew gas everywhere is if I keep the truck running while I fill it up, I know this is not the most ideal situation. I'm thinking that the issue, for the gas problem anyway, is the charcoal Evap canister being clogged. Would this cause the PO code? What Evap canister do I need to get, I've seen 2 (a box-like one and cylinder-like one?

Where’s the gas spewing from, the filler neck? The only 0442 I have had is the gas cap not sealing b/c it’s a closed system. Is the filler tube cracked somewhere?

Larry, it's coming out of the fuel door around the gas nozzle, but if I keep it running it does that once and then it'll fill up. I have looked for info about this issue and I found a Ford TSB about a fuel vent hose needing to be trimmed and I found the instructions to do that but I haven't done it yet. Besides that TSB, everything I've found has pointed towards the EVAP charcoal canister being clogged.

Maybe start with the cheapest solution trimming or replacing a possibly clogged vent hose.
