I went to buy a replacement serpentine belt for my '04 ST yesterday from AutoZone and their computer did not show they carried replacement for the '04 but they did have them for a '03. Will the '03 belt fit an '04? Comparing it to the original belt the new one seems a good inch shorter but I assume that is chalked up to stretching. Thanks - Art

As long as it's the same engine specs/model as your truck.. I don't think the engines were changed much between those years. Geeze they are behind on updating their computer system.

Well got an answer - No (maybe). The '03 belt that Autozone sold me will not fit (too short). Went to O'Reilly and they had a belt for an '04 and it fit perfectly. So either the belt AutoZone has listed for the '03 was either incorrect or the '03 belt is shorter than the '04 and will not work on an '04. Interesting. Thanks - Art

If you get a belt that is 1/2" shorter than your stock belt. You wont have as much power steering pump slipage at high rpm, such as passing gear and loosing power steering.

2001-2005 ST belt is a Gates K060865

BUT get a Gates K060860 and you will be much happier !!!!

The belt is slightly shorter, IT will grab the pulleys better and keep more tension on the belt as it stretches and breaks in..

It stopped mine from chirping and also stopped my belt float at high RPM's, I would loose my power steering because the belt would slip...

You need to buy a Motorcraft or Dayco belt. The Gates belts are not designed for Ford pulleys. you Gates belt will start to squeal at 5k miles.. The teeth on gate are squared off, while the Dayco/Motorcraft are rounded... \_/ vs (_) ... trust me on this one.... BTDT

Autozone does not have the right belt for the 2003 either. They sold me a new belt that I could not get on the truck for anything. I checked, and they list the same belt for every Sport Trac application, and it's too short for any of them! I had to take it back and get a longer belt.

Use what ever manufacturer you want, I just know the gates numbers off the top of my head..

But I have used Daycrap and the stock size motorcraft belts.... I would up putting the gates Back on and never have had issues..

STanner, Trust me on this I have been using gates serpintine replacements on fords and others ever since there invention. Never had any problems. Trust me...

then i must have has birds chirping under the hood of my aerostar for years... a dayco/motorcraft belt would last for 30000 miles. a napa/gates would last for 5-6k miles. the gates will work for a while, but... if you look at the profile of the two belts, you'll see what i mean... There is a difference between "It'll fit" and "It is the correct part"... This is especially true with oil filters, and wht i won't use any Fram product... JMHO...

Not always true. Here are two pics. The first is the stock belt (disregard the gates box in the pic.)

The second is the gates belt (from the box).

w/o a better picture, it would be hard to tell. The lower one looks rounded, perhaps gates got their act together... I have not bought a gates in years... just dayco/motorcraft, because of all of the issues i had once upon a fanbelt......
