I had an 04 XLT for about 3 1/2 years, really liked it. Had a few problems nothing too bad. Recently saw an 08 at the local Ford dealers lot. Stopped for a test drive on Friday, bought it on Monday. The difference is incredible. Both are XLT, the 04 had leather seats the 08 does not. The ride and comfort are not comparable, and I kinda like the V8. It had decent service records, some front suspension components replaced, brakes, rotors etc. And the manifold leak repaired. Absolutely clean inside, outside and under the truck. (I once had 2 LRs, leaked like crazy). I called the previous owner, she traded for a F150, kinda wishes she still had the Sport Trac. I haven't looked at the dimensions, but it appears the bed is slightly larger, is it?

Congrats, you will love it. We call LR's leak boxes......

Yes, Slightly larger, so NO gen 1 accessories will fit

I only have one issue with this truck, sometimes the O/D button works and sometimes it doesn't. Still getting used to the various controls, and haven't linked my phone to SYNC yet.

LR leak boxes is correct. However, it went wherever I pointed it. I learned more about OBDII codes, and multiple fixes in 2 years than in my previous 50. I'm no mechanic but it was either figure it out or go to the poor house. I probably had the most problematic model they ever made though, the DII.

Be sure to go to the Ford Owner web site and register yourself as the owner of that Trac with the VIN. Once you do that, you can check for any available SYNC updates for that specific vehicle. If it needs any updates, you can download the files to a flash drive and then use that to update the SYNC system in your Trac. I just did a couple of weeks ago for my recently-purchased 2010 ST LTD. The SYNC system in my 2010 had never been updated.

I went from an 01 to an 09, V62WD to V8AWD. Amazing difference in ride. But the newer one is not as stoutly built. Front end on third set of wheel bearings, second set of hubs at 98K. 01 @ 140K still on all original running gear, except the transmission...

Get a tuner to help with the crappy drive by wire throttle response.

I don't get it with all these front wheel bearing issues. I'm at almost 120k on my '07 and have not had that problem yet, knock on wood. And I have been running oversize tires since the day I bought the truck new. The truck also sees a fair amount of off-road use (mud/dust). Probably more than most other STs ever will.
