my moms 2000 Honda Accord is making a very weird sound coming from the rear.

she claims its been going on for about a week now. i drove her car the other day and

it feels like as if you had the e-brake pulled up. it makes this very loud sound/slight vibration

like as if you had a custom exhaust. the honda currently has 189k. and then e-brake like comes

on and goes off whenever it likes even though the e-brake is not set. any input would be greatly appreciated to help us determine what could possibly be wrong with it.

Probably a rear wheel bearing. My wife's wheel bearing in her 2000 Accord went at 120,000. The brake light is probably just low brake fluid, which means her brakes are due sometime soon. Do not fill the brake fluid reservoir up. If you fill it, when the brakes are done and the calipers are compressed it will cause it to overflow. You can check it to see if it is low and add a little to see if the light goes off but like I said do not fill it .

I think the bearing was $105 for a timkin bearing from autozone at the time. It looks like they now carry an autozone brand bearing for half the price. If you have the tools it is a straight forward project. My wife actually did it while I was doing homework. Now the fun part, you have to figure out which side it is coming from. To figure it out I sat in the middle of the back seat and had my wife swerve back and forth.

yeah i was looking at it on autozone and they do have a duralast for half the price, but i would much rather go with the timken. and it does seem like it wouldnt be to complex with proper tools and distinguishing which side its coming from could be hard. but i could be going 20mph and still hear it, 60mph you can really hear it. any other ways to try to figure out which side its coming from.

I would be willing to bet the duralast bearing is still a timkin. I just ordered a power window switch for my truck form autozone and it had all the same ford markings as the switch I pulled out of my truck. If you can't figure it out by noise alone you can jack up each side and feel for roughness as you turn the wheel, you can also just make sure it is not the brakes making the noise with the wheels in the air.
