I wonder what they have to do to fix it. Convert the circuit to ground control?

Who the hell would design such a half-assed circuit anyway? [Broken External Image]:

Hell. I'll just unplug mine like I did our Expedition. Don't go out of town that much anyway.

Sure...now they recall my 2002 after I replaced it. Todd and I replaced mine when we noticed I had the red switch and it wasn't covered under the recall. I forget the price but it was under $20 and very easy to do. Maybe they will reimburse me?

IT is super easy to do...

There is even a project on it in the projects section..

I have the same switch in my 96 E250 van, and they had a recall 10 years later. They put in a fusible link in line with the switch.

There is a switch on the brake master cylinder for the cruise control brake interrupt that has a red case. The replacement has a black case.

I had mine replaced at the about two years ago and was told to keep my receipt in case Ford recalled the part, and that I would be reimbursed. There was no mention of mileage, but then, I didn't ask.

Dingo - what is the mileage, if you know?

I'm not sure, as I think it varies from vehicle to vehicle. This is what was told to me by Maria at Mall Of GA Ford 2 years ago.

The arrow in this picture is pointing to the red switch.

The replacement part costs about $17, and takes about 15 minutes to replace.

This is a safety recall. It shouldn't matter on the mileage. Ford should always do this fix if it hasn't been done and/or should be reimbursed if you had the work done.

When I took my 2001 ST in for a transmission service, they replaced my throttle cable on a recall that the cable and fray and bind. I didn't know about that one. Something maybe to ask about when you all go in for this cruise switch recall.

I just popped into the Ford dealer this morning on a whim to make the appointment for the cruise control recall.

The Service writer looked up my vin on oasis and then grabbed a wiring harness with some sort of in line fuse. Plugged one end into red switch and other end into wiring harness. Zip tied it to the brake lines coming off the master cylinder and said it was done.

Took all of 30 seconds.

Does anyone know the part # Ford will use or is using on this recall? My 02 ST had still had the red top brake sensor when I bought it 12/06 with 73K, and I replaced the red topped sensor with the kit shown above in 4/07. I even have the receipt (I seldom throw anything away unfortunately), but was wondering if the part # will be the same, and then if I want to want 60 days or more for the $16 I spent to buy the part back then, and the 10 minutes it took to swap it out.

jimp,

If I'm reading the recall letter correctly, the current action is adding a fused wiring harness to the existing switch, in order to prevent a fire when/if the red switch fails. The re-designed (black) switch is a different part from what Ford is installing per the recall.

I changed my switch quite a while back when the recall only affected previous models (I didn't see a reason to wait for the recall to be expanded). I'm planning to take advantage of the new recall, and have the fused wiring harness added - simply for the additional peace-of-mind.
