I have a 2001 Ford ST 4X2. I bought it with about 139K and it's got around 142K. I noticed after I bought it that when driving it for the first time, there is a transmission slip. You can rev the gas and you can hear the engine rev and the tach goes up. If you rev it gently you will get a slight jar and the transmission kicks in and it is usually fine after that unless it cools for a long time. Just curious what the fix is. Is it something that can be fixed? Is replacing it with a used tranny or remanned work out?

Thank you.

+1 on trans fluid level check. Transmission dipstick is on the psgr side of engine. I'm guessing you bought it without service history or a PPI. If it were me I'd service this transmission. Drop pan, change filter, fill. If you want to make future trans fluid changes easier, check out installing a drain plug (see Projects section here) in the transmission pan while it's off.
