That’s kinda how I felt when it happened. I had to wrestle the old engine out of the bed and onto a small pallet on the ground so now I have to strip it down to just the block to try and dispose of it. It runs but if I can make it drivable I will have Ford reprogram or replace the PCM. It just refuses to complete the monitor tests.
Keep us posted on the end result.

The bell tensioner didn’t make a difference and I can’t drive a mile after it warms up without stalls so I can’t get to the Ford dealer without $$$ expense. Added to the DTCs is a P0402 EGR pressure high. It’s beyond economical repair so it’s on the street waiting for the tow. I replaced an ‘89 Toyota extended cab 4X4 truck in 2004 with the ST because the extended cab no longer accommodated my growing child. The ST replacement is a 2015 Toyota 4 door Tacoma 4X4 TRD Off Road, also a 4.0L V6, 4” lift. New tires are a serpentine belt and it’s ready to go. I wanted mychild to have it so I kept it well and it was a good 20 year run, but my child still has a learner’s permit 10 years after driving school so even though I will miss the old sled I am resigned to the loss. Also enjoyed the camaraderie with sporttrac.org members which was always a plus plus over the last years my members. Ciao everyone.

Glad you got some kind of closure on this one.
The '15 Tacoma is a good truck.
I've worked on those engines, and once you get used to them, they're not that bad.
If it's got that pressurized hydraulic brake booster monstrosity, that is a potential bank robber, as I recently discovered on a neighbor's car.
Anyway, good wishes for your future 4x4 adventures!

Thank you and thanks for your feedback on the ST. I am not certain on the Tacoma brakes issue but I got a great deal judging from the edmunds/kbb review assessment. I bought new Continental On Road/All terrain shoes for it but it needs steps because of the 4” lift. It has some off road beauty marks and faded paint that I’ll fix and needs front seat covers. I crawled underneath to fix all of the rubber boots recently replaced but the U-joints haven’t been lubed for a while and I might have to replace those. Have you replaced the serpentine belt on the 4L Toyota? It looks like it has to be done from underneath the vehicle because of the brake, coolant, and gas lines running above.

"Have you replaced the serpentine belt on the 4L Toyota?"

Haven't done one of those, but have done many on other vehicles.
Here's a video you can use to see how it's done.
