Hello everyone. First time poster.

Ive been an owner of my sport trac for 5 years now. I love it. Grown attached to it but ive always wanted to make it better.

Is it possible to convert it to a 4x4 version, same engine? How hard would it be?

Also i would like to upgrade the center console. Make it look more like the 2010 Adrenaline version. Thank you!

It'd be extremely difficult to do. Just trying to put together a parts list would be a monumental task, not to mention sourcing said parts. Then there's the actual build. Woof! I think you'd be better off selling your current Trac then finding a 4x4 version, or vice-versa.

What do you mean? There's no difference. The console is the same for all 2007-2010 Sport Tracs.

As I understand, the Gen2 Adrenalin was made in model years 2008-2010; they started with a Limited model in four colors only (red, white, blue, silver) and all had the black interior. There are no differences from any other Limited in the interior or drivetrain. It's only the exterior front, side and rear body pieces plus the wheels. Mine's an '08 2WD, red on black.

There were a few other differences:

1. In addition to exterior colors of red, white, blue, and silver, they were also available in black.

2. The seat upholstery on the STA's was a sportier, "perforated" design instead of the smooth leather found on the Limited.

3. The STA's were built with either 2WD or AWD, whereas the XLT and Limited were available with either 2WD or 4WD.

4. Also, heated seats were not available in the 2008 STA.

I don't think STA's are AWD, they are just normal 4x4 Tracs with no 4-Hi or 4-Lo buttons because Ford didn't want people trying to off-road them with those big low-profile 20" tires. They run in rear wheel drive all the time unless the computer detects wheelspin, then the front axle kicks in.

Johnny,

Correct, Its Auto 4wd..... they say AWD but its not full time AWD..

Is there a way to disable the 4WD other than pulling the plug on the transfer case?

Sometimes you just want to drift a little but the computer says no.

Google "Brown wire mod". I have not done it, but would like to know if it works.

You can lock put your STA in 4wd by selecting it in the menu on the dash controls. You can also turn it off if it turns itself on, but it goes back to auto.
