Don't know, but I know I waited 2 years for the 4x4 V-8. Maybe many others felt the same and marketing capitalized on it? My Dealer was feeding me info on the V-8 in 05'. Good question.

I bet that since the v8 is the newest thing, that Ford thought it better establish the ST as "beefier". The 400% stiffer frame is no laughing matter! I see why they may have offered more v8s than 6 cylinders. THOUGHTS?

Thought?

My 07 ride is great, just like everyone else has written about their 07's on this site. In fact, a friend that's a devoted Lexus/Toyota fan, has a Tundra, amongst others. He doesn't like Fords, period. He used to snicker whenever we went anywhere in my V6 Ranger. First trip in my V8 ST and he was like, "wow, you've really upgraded, this is nice". Pulled his boat with my ST (he used to pull mine with his V8 Tundra). Can't get him to convert though. He's the reason I've got the Corolla, keeps the friendship amicable...

We got plenty of V6 Tracs here in Sumter, SC. I rode by the dealer last week and there were 5 or 6 there new and 2 used ones (2005s).

I think there may be a false sense gain between the two engines when it comes to gas mileage. According to the Sport Trac spec document, both engines in the 4x2 confirguration, get the same mileage:

I can see that people would buy the V6 engine thinking they are getting better mileage, thus why there are so many V8s on the lots and fewer V6s. However, Ford could have made fewer V6s vs. V8s. Who knows...there may also be a geographic distribution method that Ford has used whereby the "green" states get V6s and the "truck" states get the V8s. Pure conjecture on my part.

I will check with someone close to the plant and see if he knows the build breakdown.

Note that the V8 HP and torque are higher but at a higher RPM. I'm curious what V8 HP and torque would be at same RPM as V6 ratings. Since I rarely exceed 3,000 RPM, what would figures be for both engines? Anybody have charts that would show this?
