2011 Ford Mustang at Bristol Speedway

Mustang 1000 Lap Challenge 7pm update: The Ford Mustang has completed 981 laps and averaged 45.1 miles per gallon from 7-8pm. The air conditioning has not been used yet today. #mustang1k

7:26pm EDT, the Mustang passed the 1000 lap mark and is still going!

i love the V-6 commercial.



on a side note, having trouble with 48 mpg ???? how accurate is that stat ????

Here are the official results of the Mustang 1,000 Lap Challenge: 1,457 laps, 776.581 miles driven, 48.536 average miles per gallon. It finally ran out of gas around 3:00am EDT.

BTW, it was a stock V-6 that had the glass roof option. There were 2 people in the car at all times. They ran 45-55 MPH laps around the bottom of the track.

That would be boring. Very interesting how much mpg we could achieve if we could keep a constant 45-55 w/o stops.

They did stop every now and then to swap out drivers. David Ragan got in the car at least twice. He was supposed to run it dry, but if it was that late, I'm sure he got back out of the car before then.
