I hope everyone make is out safe....

I think they said it started by power lines...

One of the guys at work got a call from his adult daughter this morning, (she in CA he in FL) they were ordered to evacuate their home........

For those of you that would like to watch a "live" feed of the fires, you can click below....

I have friends too who live in the SD area :(

My daughter (and her 4 cats) are spending the night at my house because the fire in Irvine (O.C., CA) was just a little too close for comfort for her. :(

My step-son is a Capt, here in Fresno for the FD. He left last evening for somewhere around Ventura CA, where the fire is threatening up this far north and some homes in that area. They put up about 80 guys from here in a shelter to stand by in case they are needed. It seems there aren't enough firefighters available to handle this big of a disaster. There are more than 25 different fires going between Bakerfield and San Diego,,,,,,,,,,it's a shame. We are all praying for those involved,,,,,,,it's a tragedy.

I spent 10 years in Ramona.... the San Diego Country Estates to be precise... not too far away from where the Witch fire started. I moved in 1997. While I was there, we had (1) close call and a dozen or so "prepared" to go fires. Since then, there was 2004 and now this week. In 2004, several of my former neighbors lost their homes. This time, I know of three friends who were immediately affected.... for anyone who saw CNN yesterday, they showed a metal sign that read "SHANGRILA", that was a community of older homes where two friends of mine used to live in separate houses. That area is now gone. I don't know if they still live there or not.

I know many people affected. My 94 year old great aunt was evacuated. It's a bad time there right now.

I read in the AZ Republic this morning, that Arizona is sending fire dept personnel

There are many other districts and more than likely All of our fire fighters want to go.

YEA! Help is on the way! Hang in there friends in CA!

I am sure that before too long Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Washington state and Oregon will too be assisting in the efforts. It is so unbelievable and very hard for all the people affected.

It's times like these when every one does pull together for each other.

For those members with family effected, as well as for all CA folks effected....

from the AZ republic:

Fourteen fire engines staffed with a minimum of three people each will be sent to the site of the fires. The engines will deploy from different fire departments around the state, including from the Central Yavapai Fire District and several departments around the Prescott area, Tucson, Kingman and Globe.

Once a region runs out of fire personnel, Pearlberg said, a request is sent to other regions nationwide.

Officials make up a list of departments that can spare resources and sends them out as soon as possible.

The firefighters will be gone for as long as they are needed. That can last up to two weeks in most situations and up to three weeks in critical situations, Pearlberg said.

The Forest Service's southwest region will send out 28 staffed engines and 12 individual managers from Arizona and New Mexico.

The local American Red Cross will also be sending assets and people to the scene of the fires. One emergency vehicle was to be sent out Monday afternoon, said Ken Krueger, chief executive of the Grand Canyon Chapter.

The vehicle features satellites so Red Cross workers can communicate in areas without power. The truck also has six phone lines and 12 laptops.

Two more emergency vehicles, with the capability for feeding up to 3,000 people, are on call, as are Red Cross volunteers.

Kruger expects 13 volunteers to be in California by Tuesday morning.

The need for volunteers is assessed at the scene of the emergency, Krueger said, and the volunteers are called and deployed as needed.

With such a large number of people displaced by the wildfires trying to contact family and friends, cell phone lines may become jammed, Kruger said.

The Red Cross Web site features an alternative called the Safe and Well List, which provides a way for those affected by a disaster to register as “safe and well.” Family and friends can check the site to check the status of their loved ones.

from Gypsy~me~: Prayers, Hopes, and Rain are in my thoughts for you all.

It the low lying vegetation that grows back in six months after they reseed. That stuff burns fast. Look at all the fires in the Lake Tahoe National forest over the last 10 years. A new fire season breaks out every year in that area.

I heard the Eucalyptus trees and sage brush are the most flammable vegetation in California. The Eucalyptus have a type of oil which burns very quickly.

Eucalyptus is not native to SoCal. The oil litterally explodes inside the tree when exposed to fire. The trees don't burn all that well until the oil gets hot. These trees have copious amounts of oil each. Once they "explode", fire ravages.

Sage brush is almost opposite. The leaves are very fine evergreen needles. The plant can survive on nearly zero water during the year. Very well suited for dry climates. Think of 500 square miles of cut christmas tree in January. Dry. Dry. Dry. Add fire and you have areas burning larger than New York City with flames 5 stories high.
