Here are the before and after pictures from my headlight restoration project yesterday.

I used 3M's headlight restoration kit and it took about an hour to complete.

I had previously used a cheapo kit that came with a handheld polisher that had no effect.

very nice results:supercool:... i used something similar on a 97 ranger i owned before my ST. you could hardly see the bulb in the light and after i used the restore kit they were crystal clear... it blew my mind.

I watched a guy on U-Tube polish his headlights by hand with toothpaste and they looked about as good as most of those kits.

You can also buy everything in the kit and it's a lot cheaper:

1. 1 sheet 1000 grit sand paper

2. 1 sheet 1500 grit sand paper

3. 1 sheet 2000 grit sand paper

(The sand paper just cuts the haze a bit faster than just toothpaste)

4. toothpaste used for polishing compound

5. spray bottle with water to keep the headlight lubed with water while sanding.

6. roll of Blue Painter's Tape.

optionally you can use a buffing wheel in an electric drill to do the final polish with toothpaste instead of by hand.

Just start with 1000 grit paper keeping the headlight wet with the spray bottle and graduate down to the 2000 grit paper. Finish polishing with the toothpaste.

Protect the paint around the headlight with blue painter's tape.
