4" back spacing on aftermarket wheels?

does anyone know how far or if wheels with 4" backspacing will stick outside the fenders? Also what is the backspacing on our factory wheels.



2003 sport trac w/ 4 wheel drive

255/70/16 tires



the wheels i'm looking at are black with a chrome lip size 16 x 8.

I believe the stock backspace is a little more than 4", so you'll be fine. Most of the 16x8's I've looked at had 4.5" backspace, which is really too much.

if you want the tire to be inside the wheelwell like stock then go with a 5" backspace, if not go 4". I have 20x8 rims with 5" backspace so i can tuck them in the wheelwells when i drop the truck down. well that was my purpose for stock looking tire placement.

Ted, be careful of an 8" wide wheel with a 4" backspace. This wheel will not quit tuck and depending on tire choice won't tuck at all.....

i was going to use the stock size 255/70/16 tires. what do you think?

I would have to go look at my trac, but I think the 4" bs on an 8" wide wheel brings the rim of the wheel out to the fender and maybe a bit past it. On the 255/70 it's going to be real close. The difference between your tires and mine is only 20mm, which is less than an inch and across the contact patch of the tire will be less than .5" on either side. IMO it will still come out past, the fender. If I get a chance I'll go done to the trac and double check.

thank you for your help. i just dont want the wheels to look stupid. i want it to look clean and nice, if it is similar to your stance on your truck i would be fine with that.

Ted, I have 16x8 American Racing rims on my 2001, and they have a 4" back spacing. Take a look in my library and see what you think. I think they look fine & not stupid.
