Hi Everyone

I have a 2003 Sport Trac, and I was testing the 4x4 the other day, and noticed the following

4x4 High works well shifts quietly.

4x4 Low when I have in neutral and flip the switch, it make s a big thunk, and then goes in.

Is this normal? If not what causes it?

Thanks

I would feel a little thunk in my old '05 going in to 4-Low but it wasn't bad. Maybe that's just how yours is. I would check or change the transfer case lube just to be safe. It is not hard to do, I wrote up a member project on it. The transfer case just takes Mercon ATF, nothing fancy.

read the owner's manual yesterday (had some spare time on my hands) it says that when shifting into 4x4 (Hi or Lo) you may experience a thud and that it is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about.

enjoy

Thanks for your research and input. I will check and change the levels was going to do the transmission and stuff anyways.

If not like Jonny0 said its in the manual, I feel better...

Just wanted to say thanks again..:)
