4x4 not engaging, has been intermittent and now nothing...

2001 Sport Trac 155,000 miles



I have experienced trouble with my 4x4 over the last year and now seems totally dead. I no longer hear the clicking noise when I try to engage, no light turns on, etc. I figured it was the control module, but after some reading it might be the shift motor? The 4x4 H and L lights turn on when I start the vehicle and turn off.



I am just really frustrated with this. I need the 4WD to get me up to the mountains for skiing and am in college so basically I need to fix this myself since funds are real short. Any insight would be very much appreciate.

I would try the module first..... Call local junk yards...



IF not try the rubber mallet test on the t-case motor..



I also believe a member here just got a module and did not need it, Maybe he can sell it to you..

I had the same problem. It was the 4x4 module. I made the mistake of going to the dealer. I believe it was around 4-500 all told.

What control modules will work for the 2001 Sport Trac? Will fellow Ranger and Explorer modules work just fine?
