I have a chance to buy a 94 crown vic from a guy I work with. Has about 50-60k on it and has new tires & brakes, the ext is in good shape from what I remember and he says the int is good with the exception of a pepsi stain on the floor in the back. Only asking $500 for it. Going thurs to look it over and will most likely buy it. The only problem and I don't think it'll be real major is this. He says it starts but runs rough until it warms up then purrs like a kitten. I think it's probably the IAC. Any other ideas other than a needed tune-up?

Oh yeah, he said it didn't run like that until he put gasoline with ethanol in it but I don't think that would do anything unless it was E85. Do you?

for $500 I doubt he is going to take it to a mechanic... Drive it and make sure the engine/transmission function properly. If say the transmission where to crap out then it would be a bit of a chore getting your $500 back at a salvage yard. Not sure what the ol' crown Victoria uses as a motor but I believe its a 4.6l DOHC with a AODE transmission. I would say it "could" be decently reliable car but $500 (or less) is about right for it.

Power is by a 4.6L SOHC to a 4R70W to an 8.8" rear. They run forever! My '98 P71 Interceptor had 103K police miles on it when I got it. I put 85K on it, sold it to a friend and he put 37K on it before it died.
