Aloha Guys,

It seems that the evaporator is out on my A/C (2002 Trac). The repair man said that I should replace the evaporator and the dryer. Looking on Amazon, I see dryers and accumulators. Are they the same and if not which do I have.

Thanks for your help Ed

Ed,

Steve is correct...and Accumulator of Dryer is essentially the same thing. The big cost will be replacing the Evaporator core which is the part of the AC system that is hidden in the HVAC box under the dash board...a real PITA to get at.

If you can replace the AC Evaporator core yourself, you can save a bundle of money, and you only need to take it to and AC shop to get the system evacuated and recharged with R134 and compressor oil.

The Accumulator/Dryer is where additional refrigerant is stored until needed, and the dryer contains one or more desicant bags that absorb any moisture in the system. Ice can clog the orfice tubes and cause the AC system to malfuncion.
