Ok, got great info from you yesterday. But... today I have another issue.

We lost power last night. When I have the Internet it is great. I will keep a connection as long as I am using the service.

If I leave for a time period and come back I no longer have a connection. I must turn off the Cable modem, unplug the router. Plug the router back in and turn on the modem and it comes right back on-line.

I have tried it with just turning off the modem and with just unplugging the router. Only once did unplugging and plugging the router back in work. All other times have required turning off the Cable modem and unplugging and plugging back in the router.

So what gives???

Check you connection settings. Maybe the power outage made the settings go to a default that makes the modem/router disconnect after a cirtain time. Just an idea. Alittle wierd problem to have with a cable modem though.

You could use an "alive" program. Google keep cable connection alive and you'll find some freeware. I would also inquire to your ISP as to why you keep getting dropped if you are suppose to have a dedicated connections.

I used to have that problem. Once it was a bad coax cable. The other time it was a sub-standard splitter I was using to split the line for cable TV and internet. If you had a lot of rain recently, it could even be a wet connector outside. The TV signal will not be noticeably affected, but the internet connection is less forgiving.

I have optic fiber to my home. Perfect TV reception and the fastest Net connection from literally hundreds of miles around. It worked perfectly until we lost power this morning.

I tried to figure out which unit by doing one separately from the other. Only once did the unplugging of the router alone bring me back on line when I plugged it back in.

It is not a computer issue as I do not have to shut down or restart any of them to get back on line.

I will get into the router home page and see if there is a "Time out" option. Don't recall seeing one off hand though.

I have lost power in th past on a fair amount of times and NEVER had this issue. It is a new issue for me.

Thanks for the ideas. If there is not Time Out option I'll go for a Keep Alive program for now.

Hmmmm...

Got into the control page. Found nothing that would indicate a Time Out option, (Referring to the Router).

I hate stupid things... LOL
