Did a little digging last night on rims, here's something I found. Pro Comp has an aluminum #1069 in 16x8, our bolt pattern, with only a 4" backspace. Good for us since bigger tires hit on the inside. Every other 16x8 I found had 4.5" backspace except for Mickey Thompson Classic II's which had 4 7/16", so those won't solve the clearance issue. Maybe I'll ask the Easter Bunny for a set of Pro Comps.

Johnny-

It SHOULD help with rubbing. What's the offset of these wheels compared to others? Probably lower, closer to 0 then the +20mm of the others, if I had to make a guess.

The problem with the wheels with the lower backspacing is fender clearance, but that normally isn't a issure at all with trucks at stock vehicle height. THe only other thing to be careful about is that with that amount of backspacing, there will be more weight outside of the mounting face, which will make the suspension work much harder. I wouldn't think it'd be enough to cause problems, espically on the back, but just make sure you check lug torques often and be aware of the extra wear that'll occur.

Right Tiger, that offset isn't much past -0-. Fender clearance on the outside kinda depends on the tire size, but you don't have to go much bigger than stock on a ST before you're rubbing on the inside. On Rangers (I'm the Tires & Wheels moderator on a Ranger board) what's real common is to run 15x8's with 3.75" backspace and 33x12.50's and with a 4" lift there are no clearance issues. The 8" rims don't exert that much leverage on the suspension really, but people have worn out their front wheel bearings faster if they run 10" rims. Problem I've found with 16" rims is that all of them that I've seen except the Pro Comps have 4.5" backspace, ergo the tires are going to rub on the inside (and I'm not a fan of spacers). That's why I was happy to find some 16x8's with a 4" backspace. If I was going to buy the whole deal I'd go 15's with a TT/shackle lift, I bet 32x11.50-15's on the above-mentioned 15x8/3.75" b.s. rims would be the ticket.
