I Just had $450.00 of brake work done. New Calipers, Pads, rotors, and hoses. My Sport Trac is still having problems with the ABS engaging on DRY concrete or Blacktop. Is the problem a sensor? My local Ford Dealership said they will diagnose it for $140.00. I do get stopped but it scares the dickens out of you at first when the ABS engage. It seems to happen more and more. One out 5 stops. Someone please HELP me with this problem.

Thanks,

Either the exciter ring is dirty, the sensor at one of the wheels is dirty, bent , out of alignment, OR they are the wrong rotors...Could even be the rear sensor...

I agree with Todd's diagnosis as the first place to begin. If you need more time to try to find out the problem, you could remove the ABS fuse to deactivate the system. You will not have ABS and they should act like normal non-ABS brakes.

Had that problem once on a Chevy Corsica. Read about the sensors/rings being dirty and how they attract metal particles [rings are magnetic]. So, after a good rain, ran fast through a deep puddle. Spray must have washed the sensors/rings because problem went away. So, get out the hose and wash down the front rings and sensors. Might solve your problem.

I had the same problem. The speed sensors for the abs, which are included in the wheel bearings are around $200 each. I ended up changing both of my front wheel bearings and that fixed it....Just know that it will get more and more frequent....

update: pulled fuse 2 things happened. 1. Check engine light cam on 2. NO SPEDOMETER!

I ended up crawling under and unplugging the ABS sensors. ABS light on, Check Engine light went out and I have a Spedometer again. I think I will drive without the ABS for now... Thanks for your comments!
