My 02 ST a/c quit cooling, took to Ford repair shop, they quoted new compressor and labor for $450 estimate to replace and fix. Ouch! Ford indicated comp. had a leak because when they did a recharge by in June 05 they used the dye. Rather than just dumping big money into ST as fall season gets here in Indiana, I purchased used compressor. ASE mechanic installed said compressor was working real good. It held r134a charge per specs. Turn a/c switch to max. a/c and it doesn't cool. ASE mech. indicated it might be a heatbox switch near glove box or an inline filter causing a clog. Before a spend my repair budget for next 8 months. what does anyone think I need to do next? Similar problems with other owner's or is mine unique? Any help is appreciated.

Does the a/c compressor even click, or engage the clutch???.. If not, then it may be an electrical problem...

Or If there is a clog, it could be any thing in the system..

Max a/c position:

- The air inlet door control motor is at full vacuum, closing off outside air and admitting only recirculated air.

- The panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.

- The A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above 43 degrees F.

- The blower motor is on.

- The center console blower motor (if equipped) is enabled.

We can all take guesses but all you have to do is take it too a real mechanic and have them put a set of R134A refrigerant guages on the high side and low side vales and they should be able to tell you exactly if you have and AC problem or if the problem is related to a heater control door in the HVAC box under the dash.

PS: Buying a used compressors is false economy and are not worth the labor cost to install them. always buy a new or rebuilt compressor.
