His straight face with the quirks always cracked me up. I would like to see some of his bloopers.

I guess this ends any possibility of them doing another Naked Gun movie, where at the start of the movie we find out that Nordberg has been killed in one of his always hilariously-painful mishaps, and while cleaning out Nordberg's desk for his widow, Drebin finds a bloody glove...

I remember back in the late 80s or very early 90s, when one of the Naked Gun movies was about to come out, Leslie Nielsen was a live in-person guest of a Milwaukee radio station's broadcast from Summerfest (a huge festival in the area--second largest in size in the US to Mardi Gras). As a practical joke, the radio station planted the crowd with hundreds of signs saying things like "Welcome Brigitte Nielsen!", introduced him as such before he came out, and instructed the crowd to all act disappointed when he came out as if they were expecting her, not Leslie, to be the one showing up. They pulled it off perfectly. Nielsen loved it, and frequently commented after that about how it was probably the best practical joke ever played on him.

I've talked to three people in their 80's since he died (my parents and a friend of theirs). They all commented that they haven't seen or heard of any of his movies since the Poseidan Adventure. It's like they don't know that he's made some very famous movies since 1980, the most famous of his career. I mentioned all of his comedy movies. Nothing. Totally out to lunch.

"A good man - needlessly cut down by pneumonia. No way for a man to die. A parachute not opening... that's a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine... having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that's the way I wanna go."

Pat Proft (sp?), one of the head writers on the Naked Gun series, was on a local radio program this morning. Says he plans to use that version of the classic Naked Gun line while speaking at Nielsen's wake.

He also said that he was told that everyone in attendance will be required to have and use a whoopie cushion from time to time--Nielsen carried one with him wherever he went, and used it regularly.

"Cheer up, Ed. This is not goodbye. It's just I won't ever see you again."
