What do you get when to this $79 backup camera:

[Broken External Image]:

You add this $25 12v DVD player:

[Broken External Image]:

On board overhead DVD for under $110. !!!!

It took me a couple of hours. Most of the time was spent fishing cable through the headliner from the backup

camera monitor to the DVD in the back. Pretty clear picture. I also used an FM modulator to patch the sound

into the ST's stereo. Well, it will make the road trips more entertaining.

I also hooked in accessory plugs for my son's Nintendo Game Cube and PS2. The Game systems

won't be installed permanently (this ain't "Pimp my Ride!").

This is a pix of the final setup. The loose wiring is the Nintendo hooked up.

Total Cost $40 ($25 for the DVD $15 for the Accessory hookup.)

Oh and for those who didn't see the monitor, here's a shot of it. It flips up when not in use and it is also removable from the mount so I can store it in the console.

The DVD playback is super clear as in this camera image.

Very cool idea.

Man, I haven't seen a portable dvd player in years. Kinda forgot about 'em.

Though if you have the slim PS2, it plays dvds and is about the same size (maybe even thinner) than that portable dvd player. 2 birds, one stone.

I wondered about the screens on those backup cameras and their clarity, but from your review, the screen is worth the price of admission; the camera is just a nice bonus ;)

(Though with a skylight I know I wouldn't get that thar spiffy mouting location. The price one pays for awesomeness lol)

That's true about the slim PS2 it does play DVDs. The only thing you would need to get would be a remote. The clarity of this unit is excellent, as far as the monitor mounting location with a sunroof you're right there is NO room. I had to make a support under the headliner. since the base is partially under the overhead console. This monitor is light you may be able to modify the mount to attach to the overhead console garage opener compartment lid.

The one thing I would recommend is a VR3 (or similar) FM modulator so that the DVD sound comes through the stereo. I paid $20 for one last year at Harbor Freight.

Sadly, Cabrera, there is no garage door opener compartment when you have a sun roof (at least on my 02). That space at the back of the console where the compartment would be is solid, with just a single toggle switch in the center, which controls the skylight.

The 02 trac is really lacking on interior space, but she's a truck, not a minivan, so I'll live. Though I have seriously thought of getting a roof carrier, putting it over the skylight, and cutting a hole in the bottom of it so I can reach in through the skylight, just to get more space (though I realize it's a retarded idea ;)

I forgot about the remote being required; the controller does work as a remote, but no one really wants to use the PS2 controller to control dvds..I don't even remember what button did what.

VR3 (walmart's brand of choice) hasn't let me down yet ;)
