So am I crazy or what? I have an 01 ST with 178k on it. I have been looking to replace it for some time now but just can't find anything I like as well. I just came across an 02 with 56k, same exact options. They want $9995 for it which I am thinking it is a little high (although I havent looked it up yet). I had hoped to improve my gas milage but I would be gaining 120k in the mileage department! Should I do it? Thoughts? Also, another question, I thought only the 01 ST had the red and white name plate on the tailgate, am I wrong? Thanks everyone!

My '02 also has a red tailgate badge.

I paid $10,995 for mine with 64,000 miles this past Christmas Eve. Too much, but it drives like a new one. You're in Des Moines, right? Me too. There is a white '01 or '02 by the Fairgrounds, 111,000 miles, leather interior, moon roof, bed extender, for $7995. Wasn't there when I bought mine. There's a green '02 on SE14th with 137,000 miles, also for $7995. I think there is a black or blue '05 in Pleasant Hill - low miles and big $$. ($13000 ?)

When I was shopping for mine, I figured an extra $3000 for 73,000 fewer miles - the equivalent of an extra 8-9 years of driving - was a good deal.

$9995 for those miles seems reasonable around here, although the price guides all say they're worth way less.

I called on the the 02 last night and it sold yesterday. Sucks because I saw it dirty the day the person traded it, called them and the salesman was supposed to call me when they had it c.eaned up but never did.....ahhhhhhh

Marsha, you're not crazy. That price is high - by $1K or more IMO. However, the used car market is strong, and that 02 has low miles. Good luck.

Marsh, I agree that you are NOT crazy.

The price for that ST is too high, even for a retail dealer price. If it's a private party sale, it's way to high.

The low mileage is good, but be weary. That may not be the true mileage, or the truck may have been totaled years ago and rebuilt? Get someone to run a CarFax on it, and have someone who knows enough to spot if body work has been done, etc.

I do not know your local market, but I can say in the Middle TN area a truck with that low of miles, provided it has a clean Carfax report, would sell for at least what the asking price is on the one you have mentioned Marsha, if not more. And yes, right now the used market is very strong ( a sellers market), especially for low mileage used vehicles. It is a combination of the effects of the "cash for clunkers" trade-in program which removed a significant number of vehicles from the market and just a general demand for vehicles. In this current market I could sell my '05 with 80k for about what I paid for it 3 years ago with only 50k miles on it. But I won't since I like it! :)

Personally I would buy from a private seller not a dealer.. that way you can save yourself thousands.. but thats just me...

Personally, having owned and loved both Gen 1 and Gen 2 Tracs, I'd use this time to upgrade to a Gen2. Not sure why anyone would buy another Gen 1 when the Gen 2 is so well built and has tons of improvements including better gas mileage but also more stable.

Love them both but why not move to a vehicle that will take you longer into the future? Why buy only a one year newer model? Other than cost is the only reason I can think of but in my thinking it's better to move at least 6 years forward in time to the 2008 models which were greatly improved. Just my opinion and the way I buy vehicles. I prefer to go new and keep them 8-10 years before going for a new one or slightly used one.
