I found a fabulous deal on a Panasonic Hi-def plasma TV and an entertainment center in Miami while I was there on business, but it was raining! So, I pulled into the local U-Haul store to rent a trailer. Then I remembered their policy on Explorers, so when I filled out the rental form under "towing vehicle", I sadly, hesitatingly, slowly scrawled......Ford RANGER.

There policy is to not rent to anything with an Explorer name on it.

I made the same lapse in judgement myself with u-haul, but she never sits outside in the rain everagain and I have plans to put A/C in the garage. Next summer she will be comfy when she is home. Called her a dare I say it again "ranger" but she gets a garage for it. And she has a better place all together to live. But I will not forget what I did to her ever

My understanding is that the ST sits on an extended Ranger Chassis, uses a Ranger transmission, engine, 4x4 control system, as well as many interior parts.



I think its more Ranger than anything, so it was probably on 25% offended.

The Explorer and Ranger shared many parts. The Explorer was first based off the Ranger. Then the Explorer got many new items and a year or two later, the Ranger got them. The Ranger gets the same engine and tranny as the Explorer does.



The Explorer was the first to get the interior, then it spilled over to the Ranger.

I just noticed Saturday, while changing the oil on my '05 trac, and doing the

"underhood thing" (checking the idler pulleys,vac hoses, etc...) that the

cruise control module, mounted on the passenger-side fenderwell, said

"Made in Mexico...P.N.???, 2001 Ford Ranger S-1!

There is definately still some shared "DNA"!!!:blink:
