This one is new to me so I thought I'd throw it out there...

Got it a couple of days ago. It is from a scammer that is making themselves look like Bisz.com.

I used them one time for something I bought over 2 years ago. The card I used then is canceled and destroyed in fact.... Just another "Hint" that this was from a scammer from the get go..

Dear Bisz.com Client,

we recently noticed one or more attempts to use your credit card information from a foreign IP address.

As a part of security measures our shop screens users activity in the FCU network.

If you recently access your account while traveling, the unusual attempts may have been initiated by you.

However, if you did not initiate the log ins,

please fill this form as soon as possible to ensure that you the only person who can use your credit card.

After verifying your identity we will send you more information on this issue.

Coastie, Good catch and thanks for the info.;)

Here is one I got the other day. Not sure if it's correct or not, but just be on the lookout.

This is not a joke!

Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation

"Life is beautiful."

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and

delete it immediately.

If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is t oo late now, your life is no longer beautiful."

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person

who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti-virus software's

are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner."

I bought a video card online for my old computer last week. Yesterday I get a call from Bank of America asking about a suspicious charge on my account for over $1000. Nope, wasn't me. They said they had a number of suspicious charges to the Primus Computer Co., whoever that is, it's not where I bought my video card. So something wasn't real secure.

Of course if Circuit City or Best Buy HAD A SIMPLE STUPID VIDEO CARD INSTEAD OF ONLY THE FANCY $200 GAMER UNITS IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM, now would it? [/rant]

I get Ebay and Paypal scams all the time telling me that my account is on hold until I log in through their conveniently provided link. Might fool some people, but I've worked in the biz too long to get suckered by a false link.

I get about 2 scam emails every month. Recently, I received an email from Chase bank regarding the suspected unauthorized use of my Visa care. Funny I thought since I don't do any business with Chase Bank so I don't have any credit cards from them.

I usually dump 90% of my emails in the trash because it is rittled with spam and scams. I did open the one from Chase to show my wife how these Phishing scams work, and how to spot them. I have been trying to teach her a little about how the PC works and how to access the Internet primarly since I have switched a lot of business dealings over to the Internet. I think doing business online with well know establishments (Brick & Morter) firms is nearly as safe as going to their actual business, but you still must be cautious on how they run their site, etc.

I received one from Chase like RichardL, and like him, I do not have any accounts with Chase. Also there's one from CitiCards going around too.

Just my 2 cents worth...

The best I have found is a reciept from paypal saying you had an order for a watch and if you did not authorize the transaction, click the link to cancel it.

Tom

Tom,

I've gotten bogus emails from ebay that indicatated that "Someone else has been authorized access to my ebay account. If I did not authorize this, please click on the link below, login and complete the form"

Most reputable companies will address any emals to you by name. Phishing emails do not address you by your name, only you email address or just a generic Custome, Member etc.

If you happen to have one of these credit cards and you get any emails asking you to go to some link and enter your card number, PIN number etc. Simply call the toll free number printed on the back of your credit card and they will tell you if it's true or a phishing epedition.
