I uninstalled a free-trial of a program (jv16 powertools) and it left a folder and a file (.exe) on my hard drive when done. I tried to delete it and it will not go away. been in and tried to change the attributes from read only, it keeps going back to read only and will not delete.

Any tips on how to get rid of it?

I tried the dos window and going del /f *.* and that didn't work either, but not sure if I had the /f in the right place. It's been along time since I played with DOS.

If you're not booting from a boot floppy into DOS, but are instead trying to delete the folder while still in Windows (even if you have a command line window open), there may be Registry entries or background services running that might be stopping you from deleting the folder.

You might also try booting into Safe Mode and try deleting it.

safe mode did it. Even after I renamed it and moved the folder, it still wouldn't let me delete.... untill I went into the safe mode. Thnaks guys for the assist.

Makes one wonder wtf a programmer would write program code that forces a user to go through hoops just to get rid of their program.

It's like every programmer thinks his code will save the earth, and why on earth would anyone want to remove it?

It was a pretty handy registry cleaner..... my laptop was loading pretty slow considering it was three years old and had numerous program installs and removals. Registry cleaner removed about 1000 bad entries from the registry and now it is much better, but I agree.... why make it so difficult to remove?

I'll reinstall it in about a year and run it again..... :)
