I know there's several volunteer and career firefighters among the MYST.com members so I thought I'd pass this along - I received it from our Chief yesterday. The U.S. Fire Administration and Homeland Security are looking for both vol and career FF's to aid citizens and communities affected by Katrina.

They are putting together 1000 two-person teams to serve as FEMA's community relations representatives in response to Hurricane Katrina. Each department may offer more than one two-person team. These people will be deployed as a team, and prefer that they know one another prior to deployment.

This is a paid deployment if you can get away from your regular job. See the link below for more information.

Just had a meeting tonight, can't get out of work but have 11 Firefighters from the area Leaving Monday Morning. Would love to help out but the Air Force seems to have bigger plans for me the next two weeks.

If you can go, you won't be alone...I'm gonna try to go out to I-95 and cheer them on as they pass through.

Tommy - Go to your local fire station and ask for information. They should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

My department in New Jersey will be staffing the large city departments in Newark and Jersey City to backfill those members who go to New Orleans. Tommy - if you live in an area with a volunteer fire department please head down to your local fire station or town hall for an application. We need help!
