Anybody know what the donut looking thing is in the picture? It is next to the transfer case on the drivers side. I have a vibration in my new long block and this part is missing after the replacement of the long block. Going back in to get the mechanic to put it back on that he must have overlooked when he put it back together. Just wondering if with this off if it would cause a vibration to be felt in the accelerator when I step on the gas and it goes from idle to 1,000 rpms and vibration goes away over 1,000 rpms. No vibration AT idle and nothing above 1,000. Just from idle to 1,000. Ideas/suggestions? Thanks gents. [Broken External Image]:

Don't think I can make this any smaller because I the size was set in my phone camera when I took it and I don't know if I can make it smaller. Sorry. Hope you can tell what it is.

Resize it when you upload it to your Library. Try 40% and see what you think. As for your part, what's it made of? I'm ignorant about 4WD Tracs, so maybe others who have one will check in.

Thanks. Will go in there and see if it'll let me do that. Its like encased rubber it looked like. Was under one on a car lot while they were closed right next to the Highway Patrol. So couldn't hand around too long. I'm thinking its some kind of vibration damper or something.

That would appear to be a damper. Metal outer with sandwiched rubber. They are attached to

the axles, transfer case etc. where ever there is a need to control vibrations especially in the drive

line.

That's what I was thinking. Just wondered if anybody knows exactly what it is and if it would contribute to my engine vibration if it is completely missing. Thanks.

The 4 door Explorers have a 5th shock that mounts to the damper. I haven't seen an explanation for why it was/wasn't included on the Sport Trac but it's nothing worth any concern. Explorer owners often remove the shock without replacing it. I suppose they leave the damper there. I haven't even looked at what would be required to remove it but I see no benefit or detriment to removing it.

My truck also has the bracket on the frame for the shock. I've been meaning to ask if anyone else has noticed that on their truck.

I removed the damper from my transfer case within the first year after I bought my S-T. That was the only one on my vehicle when I purchased from the dealer in May of 2000. Didn't notice any harsh vibrations or change in how it drove.

I went and snapped a picture of mine on my '01 Job 1. It's in the same place as the one I posted above and you can see the other bracket for the damper at to the top left. Got a picture of yours?

He actually found the part and has put it back on. Going to get it today. Where mine mounted uses a flat piece of metal with 3 holes drilled into it that are part of the damper. That bolted to the suspension.

Can you get a picture of it? I can't think of what it is your describing at all.

LOL, duh, I just kept scrolling down completely ignoring that since the first post.

Did it fix the vibration issue?

Not sure if that was it as much as the mechanic saying that the exhaust pipe was against the frame and just didn't notice it when he put it back together. Made the adjustment and the vibration I gone. What concerns me a bit is that I can hear a slight clatter like something is loose internally. :banghead:
