I have a 1998 Evinrude 150 Ficht on my Ranger Bass Boat.

The tempature guage reads hot and powers down the motor, and

sounds a alarm. But when I reach back and feel the water coming

out of the impeller outlet it barely feels warm.

Fairly strong stream coming out of outlet.

Anyone have ideas?????

:(

The cooler water could just be bypassing some where, You could have a clog in the head or exchanger, or as stated the water pump in the lower unit could be going bad...

It may be the power head gasket(between the engine and lower unit). It may be leaking from the water inlet to the discharge, bypassing the block

Maybe bad temp switches, reading the temp wrong. That happened to a friend..he replaced the switches..stoped shutting down..

me and my family busted a intake manifold because the impeller had been worn out so the block got so hot and cracked it. weve had bad engine luck the last three years. its an '00 Crownline. weve gone through 3 engines and now have a 5.7L 350 Chevy in it. I would get it checked out by a dealer or someone because it could get bad if you dont watch out.

I don't have one but at one time I was racing the Evunrude engines. With the Ficht engines, especially the early models like yours, if you want less headaches- repower. But I understand that may not be an option. The CPU on it will store codes. Take it to a dealer an have them read the codes. It could be as simple as the thermostats stuck but then there are other things that go along with an overheated Ficht. Since it has already overheated, figure on having to replace the CPU soon as they won't take the heat. Figure around a cool $1,000. to fix and this is in addition to the cost to fix the overheating condition. There are several different scenarios that can cause a Ficht to overheat, thermostat, running lean (CPU bad), poppet valve stuck, etc. You will need to have a dealer pull codes. Personally, considering the model Ficht you have, I would bite the bullet and repower. Your engine was plagued with problems from the very start and Evinrude even offered an extended warranty to 4 years because of problems. The new Ficht engines are pretty good now that the bugs have been worked out. I hope it all works out for you.

Please OH! PLEASE! take this to a dealer. Our Evunrude Ficht 175 bit the dust after the same problem. There was some sort of blockage in the cooling jackets. Busted Block, end of story. I would take it to a dealer before running again. Those engines are 10,000 + new.
