Last night I drove our Chevy Lumina home, and everything was fine. I went out a little later, and it would not start. There was a warning light that said "Service Engine Immediately". Does anyone one know what that indicates, and what the problem could be? I looked in the Owners manual and it said the the "Service Engine Soon" checks the emissions system, but this seems to be different.

:banghead:

I haven't a clue, other than the obvious. The obvious being... It won't start. get it fixed.

Sorry. I couldn't resist. Maybe the computer went bad?

Yes, like Eddie said....Does the starter crank the engine, or is the starter dead.

It may just be something as simple as a bad battery, bad battery cable, or connection.

It could also be a dead ECU computer??

I would check that the battery is good and fully charged, then check all the cables and connections. Beyond that will take some testing that will probably require GM's Mr. Goodwrench...

Your problem began with "Last night I drove our Chevy Lumina home" . Mine is a Ford only home. But, I wish I could be more helpful.

from what i remember, "service engine immediately" is the equivalent to the "check engine" that is used present. a computer code was activated.

sorry dont know the reason but i know the "message" sounds urgent.

First off if the vehicle isn't running then the check engine light will be on, it's called a bulb check and is normal. It really sounds like you have a bad battery or alternator.
